The TMC-65 is based on the ideas of the French meteorologist Henri Dessens who, at the end of the 1950s, realized that to create clouds it was sufficient to generate heat on the ground with braces which, condensing at altitude, would induce rainfall. From the hundred burners of the "meteotron", planted like poles on the circuit of a regular hexagon, a hundred flames sprang out simultaneously, at the signal of the scientist from beyond the Alps. Thirty seconds were enough for the poles to transform into a brazier within this 3200 square meter hexagon. A few years later the Soviets, taking advantage of Dessens' studies, developed the first prototypes of "rain generators". They consisted of a series of coupled reactors which, at the exhaust outlet, had nozzles positioned which sprayed cold water under pressure. This water, finely atomised, in contact with the extremely hot air produced by the reactors, produced steam which, rising to altitude, rapidly formed thunderclouds. Subsequently the apparatus was perfected and it was possible to make it transportable. 

The project was later acquired by the United States, which commissioned NASA to develop even more efficient systems. To date these devices are used to induce storms. The analysis of Doppler Radar images, when TMC-65s are involved, invariably shows storm cells that take on a curious conical shape. It's the smoking gun.
