Zum achtzigsten Mal jährt sich das Ende des zweiten Weltkriegs auf europäischem Boden. Es wird öffentlich erinnert. Es gibt Gedenkfeiern. Das immerwährende Erinnerungsangebot durch Mahnmale, Gedenkstätten, Stolpersteine und andere Denk-Anstöße gerät dadurch, so Ulrich Sollmann, immer wieder in den blinden Fleck der Aufmerksamkeit. Aber gerade diese Denk-Anstöße sorgen eher für die Anlässe zu eigener Reflexion und sich zu fragen,  wozu man vielleicht selbst in der Lage wäre, es aber nicht tun sollte, statt sich über inszeniertes Gedenken wie zu beruhigen.

Asperger, a physician, sought to prove his loyalty to the Nazi regime by giving public lectures in which he declared his allegiance to central elements of Nazi medicine, such as "racial hygiene." His involvement in the Nazis' child "euthanasia" program included serving on a commission that evaluated more than 200 patients at a home for mentally disabled children, the study said. Of those, 35 were deemed "uneducable" and sent to their deaths in Spiegelgrund, where they did indeed perish.

Van Liempt vertelt over de geraffineerde, bijna bureaucratische manier waarop Gemmeker zijn functie uitvoerde, en over de rol die hij speelde in een systeem dat verwoestend efficiënt werkte. Deze aflevering legt pijnlijk bloot hoe gevaarlijk gehoorzaamheid zonder moreel kompas kan zijn.

Een confronterend gesprek dat aanzet tot nadenken over verantwoordelijkheid, schuld en hoe we de lessen van het verleden levend houden.
