Dark, rhythmic, and brutal honest, W A R narrates the writer's life during a time of change and strife as she grapples with the realities of starting a new life in a new land with her soulmate whilst simultaneously learning to handle trauma and regret from her previous relationships.
"Love can never triumph without loss" she jubilantly proclaims in the chorus of the title track W A R: a line that sums up the theme of the album, before reflectively singing "exposing our demons, though the rest of the world might see them...". Despite the despairing, or anxiety riddled lyrics in many of the songs, the album is also sprinkles with warmth, peace, and resolve. Since learning piano at a young age, Catherine Vartain Frilund has turned to songwriting as a way to process and release her most complicated emotions, and is excited to be learning how to produce her own projects.

This is Cat's first self-produced full length album, and was a project taking a year and a half, written during summer of 2023 and then self-composed and produced in the year following. She worked extensively with her vocal coach, Jennifer Blades, who also helped fine-tune some of the lyrics.
The album was coproduced by Cat's husband, who she finally resides with in Lahti, Finland.
