I dug deep in the OLRS archives to bring you some of my own personal favourites that rocked the floor from yesteryear.  Not taking our eyes off the prize, we include the usual heady mixture of the jams that are doing it right now and forthcoming releases from the biggest names in the scene. Oakland's AYBEE will make his debut on Molly's newly launched RDV (Recit de Voyage) with the label's second release. The 'Nexus' EP follows the DJ/producer/filmmaker's 2016 LP 'The Odyssey' on his own Deepblak imprint and recent 12" 'The Motion Syntax' for London's DMK.

Having established a reputation as one of electronic music's foremost innovative and versatile musicians - with a freeform, jazz-influenced approach to production that has lent itself equally to a prolific solo output under various guises and collaborations with Afrikan Sciences, Ron Trent and Jerome Sydneham - 'The Nexus' finds AYBEE again mining a deep & hypnotic house sound to maximum effect, employing the tribal drum patterns, hypnotic synths and signature grooves that helped establish the Deepblak sound. 

The trio of tracks make for a perfect follow-up to RDV's debut from Prophets of a New Generation, and fit beautifully within the trademark deep, subtle & groovy style of the Parisian DJ & Rex Club resident Molly, who herself is quickly establishing herself as a label owner with her own unique vision.

Mario lives at Pilastro and has a quiet life. Every day the alarm rings at 6.00, a strong and decisive ring, able to erase any memory of what he has dreamt about and drop him right into everyday reality. A kiss to his daughter, who still sleeps serenely in the bunk bed… a smile to his wife, the beloved Giovanna, who prepares the breakfast with care and devotion. Milk, coffee, biscuits or cake, whatever. A caress on the hand, before the shower and the usual “see you in the evening”. He jumps into the car singing softly the song of the day. Mario loves singing as it makes him feel good and allows him to face another work day with the right mood. Each day one song. Sometimes new, sometimes drawn out of his immense repertoire created over the years. Inserts the key and the deafening engine responds at once. A curve to the right, the standard straight way and then the sequence of small bends which as usual give him the opportunity to concentrate just as much as necessary in order to sweep away the last signs of the night sleep. Here he is on his way, running towards a new, and yet umpteenth, day of his life. The cars are already lined up at the petrol station at the entrance to orbital road. The “Hitchhiker's bar” is already full as ever….”what a funny name!” Mario thinks while reading the gaudy sign. Life passes by. Without big claims. Without big surprises. Everything is ok. 
Suddenly like a flash... Mario gets dazzled and instinctively pushes the brake and slows down. Looks up and stares at something in the sky…

Lenny Posso, a native New Yorker, (currently residing in Berlin, Germany) started his musical journey as a dancer during the opulent frenzy of NYC’s early 90’s rich nightlife, witnessing first hand the birth of a movement that we later coined the “the Underground”. Through out the years Lenny has seen and experienced many waves of the various sounds that dominated the city’s hot spots (Red Zone, Limelight, Sound Factory…) Being fully immersed and accepted by all the factions of the New York underground is what truly inspired him to take this Art form further. These early influences led Lenny to become a DJ, promoter, and now label head of three very successful record labels (Thema, Thema Digital Series and Chronicle). Utilizing his years of experience in different facets of the industry – promotion, label management, DJing – helped to carve out his small niche in the City’s well-known music history. 

Lenny has shared the DJ booth with legions of DJs/artists locally and abroad playing in clubs such as Output, Tresor, Berghain, Rex Club, Le Sucre and other clubs and underground spots throughout Europe and North America, sharing his bold, energetic, unique blend of techno funk. His motivation lies in the pursuit to positively engage the audience with the most current and obscure sounds of today, as well as yesterday. His style of DJ’ing is one that tries to tell a story through sound while keeping his eyes set firmly on the future of the music. 

As founder and manager of Thema Recordings, Lenny has created a platform that continues to develop and redefine the ever-evolving New York underground as the city’s international profile broadens. Never conforming to one style or sound, Thema has built a reputation for putting out some of the most cutting edge, abstract, techno and house music coming out of the U.S. today. With artists such as Norm Talley, Christopher Rau, Ark, Terrence Dixon, Oskar Offermann & Edward showcasing Thema’s dynamic spectrum of House Music and Techno. And after more than 10 years, there's no sign of slowing down. The sub-label Chronicle is geared more towards a sci-fi, futuristic, harder groove, techno sound. Showcasing artists such as Population One, Staffan Linzatti, Aiken, Samuli Kemppi and Zadig helping to define Chronicle’s sci-fi, forward thinking approach. Last but not least is Thema Digital Series, a digital only label that is dedicated to showcasing up and coming talents from across the globe and to nurture a nice new cache of young new Thema Artists. OMAKASE #255, GOLD CODE

All the tracks in this Dj set have been produced by a small group of music makers. I refer to Jus Ed, Dj QU, Aybee, Levon Vincent and Fred P. Producers, who belong to the restricted elite of those who who were able to create a style which has become the Standard of this type of music. Each of them with his own unique peculiarity and sound identity and yet have something in common with the each other: deep and evocative sound, inclination to alternate soft and involving landscapes with disturbing and pulsating atmosphere. Music which goes simultaneously to the two extremes of the spectrum: white light and darkness. Probably it is not a coincidence that these artists have collaborated on various recordings. I like to think that the growth each of them had in terms of his art has been at least partially evoked by these magic moments of exchange and sharing.

In maths, an intersection is the overlapping area of two distinct sets. A place which content is shared. This sharing generates a new reality, which is a daughter of the two sets and yet is different from these two. If we think that a dj set is the moment of time in which each preceding track intersects with the coming one, to share a piece of itself in order to become something else, everything gains even more clarity.

Gold Code aka Raf Zevallos-Crowe, is a dj/producer based in Orange County, California. A lifelong music lover, collector and veteran dj, Raf's eclectic sets run the gamut of dance music with a base in house and techno.

Growing up in 1980s Los Angeles, he was initially inspired by radio mixshows and djs such as: Doc Martin, Rob One, Michael "Mixxin" Moore, and 1580 KDAY Mixmasters. Moving to San Francisco in 1992, he immersed himself in its underground scene. Attending parties lead to working them and eventually to djing. He played his first warehouse in 1996 and spent the next 10 years djing and producing some of San Francisco’s most infamous parties and club nights.

"Gold Code" was initially founded as a music blog in 2007. The site showcased past, present, and future classics and as well as his personal edits and dj mixes. 

In 2009, he focused his efforts on music production and a live show. He adopting "Gold Code" as his moniker and debuted a well-received live set at the celebrated “As You Like It” parties. Remixes soon followed for Nude Photo Music and SubSensory labels culminating with his debut release, "The Day After" with remixes by Audioelectronic, Basskittens, Chris Fierenze, and Jonah Sharp.

2015 brought a move back to Southern California and a radio show, OMAKASE. Currently airing every Sunday from 6-8 pm [Pacific] on 88.9, KUCI Irvine, and streaming online at www.kuci.org, OMAKASE showcases the art of mixing past, present, and future classics.

I grew up with Italo disco and Synth-Pop. When I was eight years old I loved Righeira, Visage, Dead or Alive, Duran Duran..... At thirteen, I discovered  R.E.M., Pylon, Dirty Looks, Smiths, B 52's and I fell in love with American new wave. At fourteen, Never Mind the Bullocks and the Punk scene. At eighteen, all the English new wave - Cure, Joy Division, Bauhaus - Industrial - Cabaret Voltaire, Einsturzende Neubauten, Throbbing Gristle - and EBM - Front 242, Young Gods, Clock DVA. I loved Doors, Velvet Underground, Rolling Stones....At twenty, Black Music showed me a new world....... where the beat is directly connected to our deep and grounded roots of life.
