Balkan Bass & Yug Modnar - Borscht Soup // Balkan Bangers 004

This was to be one of my first recordings. I uploaded a short version of the track.

Back in 2012, I tried out a sound devices recorder and recorded a distorted radio program with classical music in my kitchen.
I was hungry and started to cook a traditional Russian soup “borscht”. This dish was one of my favorites that my Russian mother cooked for me when I was little.

The radio broadcast, made unrecognizable by the distortions, reveals the music as such, but nothing more. How memories are often a distorted version of the past, constantly changing and becoming something new, but always trying to maintain a connection to the event from the past.

In my childhood, the radio was constantly playing in the kitchen. The sound of cooking with radio atmo in the background generates nostalgic feelings for me.
