Job van Gorkum studeerde af als theaterdocent aan ArtEZ hogeschool voor de kunsten in Arnhem. Hij was zanger en liedjesschrijver in het Nederlandstalige popbandje BEU, totdat hij samen met pianist Tomas Postema besloot: er moet theater bij. En dat werd muziektheatergroep BOT.

Geert Jonkers en Doan Hendriks sloten zich aan en ontwierpen onder het motto ‘bestaat het niet, dan maken we het zelf’ talloze uiteenlopende muziekmachines die zowel een muzikale belevenis zijn als het beeld bepalen bij alle voorstellingen. Want BOT is muziek om naar te kijken. Alle objecten die op het toneel verschijnen produceren -al dan niet mechanisch aangedreven- geluid of worden akoestisch bespeeld, van subtiel getingel-tangel met theelepeltjes tot lijvige kakofonische fanfare.

De liedteksten van Job zijn in het Nederlands. Maar BOT gaat ook regelmatig de grens over. Want ook in Duitsland, Frankrijk, België, Engeland, Zwitserland, Denemarken en Estland is er een publiek voor dit fysieke, bonkige spektakel. Vertalingen vinden ze niet nodig. De muziekmachines zijn stuk voor stuk personages die een voor iedereen te volgen taal spreken.

BOT brengt onder de titel 'Het Oog Wil Ook Wat' met onregelmatige regelmaat video's uit op YouTube. Kijk bijvoorbeeld naar https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nbU1juaJbAs

De in 2018 uitgekomen cd 'PLAAT' bevat foto's van Peter van Hal. Van hem verscheen eerder een audioportret op https://www.arnhemsfabrikaat.nl/peter-van-hal/ 

Op dit moment toert BOT met de zaalvoorstelling KLOEK door Nederland.
