Labi Siffre has been sampled many times by some of my favorite rappers (Jay Z, Kanye, Eminem), so I dove deeper into his discography. I had first heard the song "Bless the Telephone" while riding the bus home one night after a bad day in college. 

I was struggling with courses, isolating myself and winter was just getting started, so the seasonal depression was doing its thing. Once the song came on I felt a warmth in my chest and didn't feel as alone anymore. I probably replayed it another 4 or 5 times before moving to another track.

When I got home, I ran to my laptop to find out how many times the song had been sampled, but I couldn't believe it when I had only found one such instance. I immediately got to work, burning the song of YouTube and chopping up the samples as best I could.

That was about four years ago. Earlier this month (Oct. 2025) the song - and Siffre's music - has gained popularity among younger generations of people like myself, so I figured it was about time to put my project out there for everyone to hear. 

It's a really simple lofi-type beat and my goal was to replicate the solace the original offers to those having a hard time. I hope you enjoy it :)
