La dream pop  est un sous-genre de la musique alternative, caractérisé par une ambiance éthérée et des textures sonores enveloppantes. Né au début des années 1980 au Royaume-Uni, ce genre se distingue par une combinaison unique de rock alternatif, de rock psychédélique, de pop et d'ambiant, créant une atmosphère immersive et introspective.
Le dream pop a émergé à la fin des années 1980, influencé par des techniques de production comme la « Wall of Sound » de Phil Spector. Des groupes comme Cocteau Twins et A.R. Kane ont été des pionniers du genre, posant les bases d’un son caractérisé par des guitares saturées d'effets et des voix éthérées. On retrouve aussi des traces de ce style dans les expérimentations psychédéliques des Byrds ou encore dans la délicatesse musicale de Vini Reilly avec The Durutti Column. Au cours des années 90, le genre a connu son apogée avec des groupes comme Mazzy Star et Cranes, qui ont contribué à sa popularisation auprès du grand public. L’inclusion de morceaux de dream pop dans la bande sonore de Twin Peaks a également joué un rôle dans la diffusion de ce style. My Bloody Valentine, souvent associé au shoegaze, a aussi marqué le développement du genre avec des textures sonores avant-gardistes. Après une baisse d'intérêt au début des années 2000, marquée par la montée du britpop, le dream pop a connu un renouveau dans les années 2010, porté par des groupes comme Beach House, Wild Nothing et DIIV qui ont mêlé les sonorités du dream pop à des influences contemporaines telles que l'indie pop et le bedroom pop.

La dream pop se caractérise avant tout par une atmosphère onirique et immersive. Les morceaux sont souvent construits autour de couches de réverbération et d'écho, créant un paysage sonore dense et enveloppant. Cette approche met l'accent sur la texture sonore autant, sinon plus, que sur la mélodie. Les voix dans la dream pop sont souvent éthérées, chuchotées ou multi-traitées, se fondant dans la musique pour devenir une composante texturale. Les paroles, souvent abstraites ou philosophiques, contribuent à l’aspect introspectif et mélancolique du genre. Sur le plan instrumental, la dream pop combine généralement des guitares baignées de réverbération avec des claviers atmosphériques et des synthétiseurs. Les guitares, bien qu’omniprésentes, sont souvent traitées avec des effets comme la réverbération, l’écho et le délai pour produire des sonorités flottantes. Cette superposition d'effets contribue à créer une ambiance immersive et une profondeur sonore envoûtante.

Bien que la dream pop et le shoegaze partagent des points communs – tels que l'utilisation des effets et une forte attention à l'atmosphère –, les deux genres diffèrent dans leur approche émotionnelle. Le shoegaze tend à être plus agressif et abrasif, notamment à travers l'utilisation intense de la distorsion et des murs de son massifs, créant une expérience sonore souvent plus brutale et confrontante.  La dream pop, quant à elle, privilégie des sonorités plus douces, mélancoliques et introspectives. Là où le shoegaze peut sembler bruyant et impénétrable, la dream pop offre une approche plus nuancée et contemplative, invitant l’auditeur à s’immerger dans une atmosphère plus subtile.

La dream pop est un genre musical qui, grâce à son atmosphère unique et ses textures sonores immersives, a marqué durablement le paysage musical. Son héritage perdure à travers les générations, inspirant continuellement de nouveaux artistes et offrant aux auditeurs une expérience sensorielle et émotionnelle hors du commun. Par sa capacité à transcender les genres et à rester pertinent dans un monde musical en perpétuelle évolution, la dream pop continue d'être une source inépuisable de créativité et d’évasion.

I’ve been a dance DJ in many clubs and bars up and down the UK and across Europe. I’ve worked with a number of radio stations doing Deep House, House and Chillout shows for over the last 20 years, In that time I’ve mixed it up with world famous Djs from all around the globe. 
The Sounds Collective show was born in May of 2011 as part of my passion for dance music. It has grown at an amazing rate with the support and help of good friends and new friends I have met along the way. 
 On My shows I play the newest and finest in Deep House, House music, and chilled beats. The show has been honoured with many amazing world class Labels Artists and Dj’s.
Labels like UM Records, Deepwit Recordings, Itom Records, Ready Mix Records, Fierce Angel, Hed Kandi, SeamlessDeep, Redbox Records and Deep Site Recordings.
 The line up of Guest Dj’s who have appeared on the shows include Andrew Weatherall, Rishi K., Paul Cassidy, Moti Brothers, Tom Lown, Portofino Sunrise, Rory Cochrane, Broadcasting, Ben Sowton, Marshall Jefferson, Mark Doyle, Terry Hunter, Graham Sahara, Graham Park.
