The song in the intro/outro (“Oh you used to call me Daddy…”) is sort of a sample of a song that my father would sing to me when I was a little girl. He got it from somewhere, but didn’t sing it exactly like the original.

When he would sing it to me as a small child, I would cry every time. Perhaps my very young self could remember our soul contract, knew the lessons we were meant to teach each other, & knew we would someday part before death called us.

Our estrangement has hurt me deeply, as did every action of his that led up to it. I’ll grieve this loss the rest of my days to some degree, but my peace & ease of self-love has increased immeasurably by removing his influence.

Big hugs to everyone estranged from parents or other loved ones, not because it’s what you wanted, but because they left you no other choice. And you HAD to choose YOU.

I wrote this track incorporating Jazz, Scat, Be Bop, R&B, Blues, and even Hip hop/Rap' including a 90's vibe. I'm happy I can create a fusion of different genres and turn it into a great song. I'm a creative writer so this was very fun for me.  I don't plan to be an artist. Writing songs is just a talent of mine, a hobby that's therapeutic for me.

I was in band class in, I think it was 7th grade? For a very short period of time. I took the trombone and on the first day of class I swung it around like a sword and immediately got kicked out lol. That was my short stint at the trombone : D

Anyway, I made this sketch yesterday in under an hour and it sounds like it's got a lot of synthy brass sounds going on so I thought of that anecdote. Maybe get a laugh or two ; )

I know it's been like forever so I just wanted to post something today to stay relevant lol. This year has been a little more crazy than usual. The beginning started out great, musically. I was writing stuff all through March and then everything got really crazy at work and stayed that way all through the spring. I started to write here and there for the past couple of months but most of it has been some hot garbage.

Anyway, hopefully I'll be writing more stuff throughout the rest of the year and I hope everyone is staying cool.

Big Daddy was born and raised in the East Bay of the San Francisco Bay Area during the mid 90's.  Growing up on the west coast helped Sean gain the exposure to the underground Bay Area funky house scene.  It also helped him cultivate a rich and diverse musical pallet with major influences including Fatboy Slim, DJ Dan, Carl Cox, and a host of guests at the the regular Funky Techno Tribe parties.  

He moved to Pittsburgh to pursue a career in healthcare IT but during the global pandemic of 2020 discovered his love for mixing and beat matching.  Its no wonder he's a tripped out psychedelic stoner.

My music is sort of witchy/spiritual alchemy hip-hop, with a lot of other influences & zero care for fitting in a box. I’m alchemizing pain into art & sharing my wisdom, & sometimes channeling some divine wisdom into my songs, too! Our words are spells. ✨

I’m a self-healing, cycle-breaking, shadow-working, queer, pagan witch. I’m also momma to an amazing little boy, audHD, chronically ill, & a CPTSD survivor. When I’m not momming or making music, I have a small online crystal biz, make beautiful crystal jewelry, & dog walk & dog sit.

I’ve been playing other people‘s songs since I was like 9 years old, becoming quite the lil acoustic guitar cover song artist over the years. I’ve felt called to create & perform my own music for as long as I could remember, though. 

Between trauma, motherhood, health struggles, imposter syndrome, & financial hardship, I just never made the time or took the leap. I was too afraid to fail. Afraid that the thing I wanted most wasn’t actually for me. False. What you feel tugging at you is NEVER for nothing.

In July 2024, after a period of profound transformation & just before turning 38 years old, I became attuned with level 1 Reiki energy. I performed Reiki self-healing on myself every day for over a month before becoming attuned with Reiki level 2. And then the music started pouring from me. Not all at once, & not perfect from the start, but the valve had begun to loosen, the flow had started to trickle.

I used the energy of full moons, new moons, eclipses, & solstices to manifest; to help me step into my gifts, my purpose, & my path. During September & October 2024, this lil Libra’s most favorite time of the year, I wrote & composed my first 3 full songs. I pulled things from my sparkly, amazing brain that I’m in awe of, that felt channeled, that I wrote in a few hours, & then built on from there into full, complex songs. Songs that are now my favorite songs, that I listen to on repeat, that I can’t believe I made.

On a particularly dark day years & years ago, when I was a new mother & feeling so desperate to heal so I didn’t hurt my child the way I was hurt & hurting, I felt a Goddess speaking to me. I was giving myself EMDR, snot sobbing, sitting backwards on the toilet in the bathroom, staring out the window. I had been agnostic for a decade, feeling so betrayed by both my family & religion, so this was pretty profound. She told me my purpose was to heal, to be my own savior, to find myself & learn to love myself better than I had been loved. That then I could help, inspire, & empower others to do the same.

Here I am. Claiming my place. Giving imposter syndrome the middle finger, admitting out loud that I am a testament to what it looks like to truly do the work. To compassionately acknowledge that you’re a victim, & at the same time stepping out of the victim box & realizing you have everything inside you to save yourself…it’s everything. It’s opened up the world to me. It’s allowed me to love myself unconditionally & enough to allow this version of me to pursue her dreams, to nurture my gifts in ways no one else ever has, & to get out of my own way.

I’m using GarageBand, I have zero training, & I haven’t read music since middle school. I record with Apple EarPods & my iPhone or iPad. I have used a few loops from the GB library, but I try to create mostly all my own. I love bassy beats, so many kinds of hip-hop, harmonies, neat sounds, building to a climax, rapping, clever &/or profound lyrics, rhyming, slant rhyme, alliteration, & coming up with unique ways to say wise things to people that’s really impactful & sticks with them, especially through music.
