During our ρⓄᔕⓉ-ᑎīᗩᑎᔕᗩ event, Miha Godec performed his live bio-sonification experiment ʙɪᴏᴅʀᴏɴ, in close harmony with the mesmerizing Abandoned Plants Sanctuary at Krater. Crafting a captivating sonic environment where flora and sound interweaved into an immersive 35-minute-long soundscape.

Terrarium is the second part of the Planet Cycle trilogy.

The Planet Cycle is a concept work of three short electro-acoustic albums composed by Danilo Ricci, each of them divided in four movements.

The Electric Earth Orchestra mixes orchestral textures with sounds generated by plants through self-built data sonification devices, to bring their unheard, constant activity and soul into music.

This project is a collaboration with a mushroom. Literally. A chicken of the woods/COTW/Laetiporus sulphureus generated the majority of this “music” through biodata sonification (electrodes reading the mushroom’s electrical pulses and translating that data into music notes). Producing these tracks was just a matter of layering, slicing up, and moving around the mushroom’s unique compositions. Each track was created during a different sonification session over the course of 10 weeks; a snapshot in the life cycle. As the mushroom aged, became water-logged, and got nibbled on by bugs and other fungi, the quality of the pulses changed and so did the energy of the music. Life is filled with so many songs, many of which we can’t usually hear. Take a moment to tune in.

On the Cutting Edge Tim Fitzmaurice talks with Ann McCartney of the UCSC Genomics Institute and with Joseph Yracheta and Dr Kali Dale of the Native Biodata Consortium on a new biodata Bank in South Dakota. After a history of extracting data from people without their consent, can this project, funded by NIH,  be done without ethical lapses and exploitation.

This is an experimental album in process, growing, created in collaboration with plants using biodata from the plants that is translated into midi data.

The Madagascar dragon tree (Dracaena marginata), native to the dry forests of Madagascar, is a slender, upright species distinguished by its long, narrow leaves edged in red or pink. In its natural habitat, it can grow into a small tree that provides shelter for birds and insects, though it’s most often cultivated indoors as a resilient, low-maintenance ornamental. Adapted to withstand drought and poor soils, it symbolizes endurance, adaptability, and quiet strength. Beyond its visual appeal, it is valued for its ability to remove airborne toxins such as formaldehyde, benzene, and trichloroethylene, contributing to healthier indoor air. Its architectural form and striking leaf margins give it a modern elegance, making it both a decorative centerpiece and a subtle reminder of nature’s capacity to thrive under challenging conditions.
