Hi, I’m Alan T from North Yorkshire, UK. I enjoy creating music with ukuleles (four, five, eight and ten string'ers), some keyboard and singing. I make music solo and with Fiona as part of our duo ‘Al~Fi’. She brings her talent on fiddle to our recordings and also mandolin from time to time. I produce music using GarageBand. Hello - I'm Simon York and I'm the singer / guitarist and songwriter / artistic director of the band Luxury Stranger. 

This might surprise you but I've been a musician and performer for more than 40 years (starting at an early age as a singer before moving into classical music as a violinist when I was 8 years old, before moving my focus to rock music when I was 16). I've been a working musician since I was 18, signed to a major label when I was 20 but hit the industry at its worst... so I went 'semi-professional' and studied soundtrack / sonic art work when I was in my mid-20s. I've also been working professionally as a graphic designer for nearly 20 years.  

I've composed for film / TV and advertising as well as 'pop' music for various band and solo projects over the years. My on-going project is the fore mentioned Luxury Stranger which I started up in 2006 but – being someone who writes music and songs in various styles – some of my work doesn't always fit under the Luxury Stranger banner... and so, every once in a while I put out 'solo' works. 

Sometimes these works result in some live shows, sometimes I prefer to keep things studio based, so's not to distract too much from LS (which is a severely live-based beast!). 

I've released loads of CD only releases under my name and different monikas since the late 90s. After some time away to retrain in some areas and to get Luxury Stranger started, I released my first fully instrumental EP (Other Voices) digitally and on CD in 2012. This was followed by the release of my first solo album – Nothing's Ever Quite What You Thought It Would Be - in November 2013. This was a limited CD only release made up of a mix of vocalised songs and instrumentals. The album was well received and I performed several solo shows to help promote this album, opening for acts such as the March Violets and Miles Hunt (Wonder Stuff). Since then I've been completely focussed on Luxury Stranger... 

2021: I released the album "Uh-huh..." exclusively for only three days between 16th to 18th April. This album was a bit of a self-re-education of sorts for me, which I've already talked about so don't need to again... "Uh-Huh..." was very well received and I've had some fantastic feedback too. The album was re-released in 2023 on CD. 

Luxury Stranger is currently working on the new album Above and Below – and back to playing live!!! 

2025: I released another solo album – More Than Just Movements – as part of my dealing with feelings / thoughts after the sudden loss of my mum who was 66 at the time, last August.
