Otherworld 2024 was arguably the best regional I've ever burned at, and Skybar absolutely smashed it! I really didn't know what I had signed up for when I showed up to play my Friday night set, but I knew that I had to follow Candy Whip, so I prepared a filthy mix of Bass House & Breakbeats. 

However, I actually went "off book" around 2/3rds of the way into my set. I was getting super frustrated over some technical issues that I could not figure out. Thankfully, the lovely Justin Barnes noticed a loose RCA cable coming out of my controller, which explained what I was hearing. Finally able to enjoy myself, I decided to end with a sillier, more troll-y direction, which I think represents Skybar pretty well :) Enjoy!

This mix features my usual Bass, Breaks, and UK Garage influences, but I tried to wind down the energy in last 20 mins - kind of. It was my turn to close down the party this year, so I had a longer set to work with. Hope you like it )'(

Musical notes:
**The 1st track in this recording is (John Summit's Palm of My Hands - Odd Mob remix) actually the last track from @dj_sowa 's set. I included it because I started my set by blending directly from this track into a big, dramatic drop. A super fun way to start a set (for me), and Sowa was slaaaaying, so I wanted to build off her bad bitch energy.

At the end of this set, I secretly played a bit of Halcyon & On & On by Orbital - an absolute classic, and very special song to a couple friends on the dance floor. I actually sampled a bit of its ethereal vocals at couple other points just for fun. I love doing stuff like this, and I'm a sucker for couple's who have "a song". Now, usually these songs are damn near impossible to fit my bass-heavy sets, but this one? It fit perfectly <3

Psytox (aka Norman Bates, MDNT:SON, Didier Beydts, Svemirski, PSTX) has been dj'ing since 1989. Rather than being pigeonholed into one style of music, he mixes very eclectic sets, including elements of acid, house, techno, deephouse, minimal, breakz, d'n'b,... . It has brought him to a wide variety of venues in different scenes.
Together with Edward Molton he also founded his own imprints Coincidence and Coincidental Records, who have been releasing Techno from artists like Jeroen Search, 6SISS, Esther Duijn, Ruffneck Prime, Rebekah, Marcel Fengler, Developer, Delta Funktionen, Charlotte de Witte, Conforce, Mary Velo, Tom Hades, Layr and many more. He also produces and releases on Rhythm Converted and Be As One. He also promotes his own nights at Kompass Klub, Café d'Anvers and Tomorrowland's infamous "Rave Cave". So hard working is definitely a suitable description.

He has been known to play extensive sets (up to 15 hours straight) at established events such as Tomorrowland, Kozzmozz, Thé Dansant, Wanted Berlin, Extrema Outdoor, Lost Theory Festival,… and venues such as Kompass Klub, Now & Wow, Other Side, Zodiak, Tresor, Cafe d'Anvers, Fuse, Chalet, Charlatan, Decadance and Silo to name just a few.

For almost 20 years, James Steer has consistently and unassumingly contributed to the after-hours soundtrack of Melbourne. Well respected within the underground Melbourne DJ community, James has built a reputation as a selector who deftly balances exquisite taste with technical execution. James cut his teeth as one of the founders of the legendary Deep Chord Melbourne parties in the early noughties, showcasing the emerging deep minimal sounds of the time to an eager and receptive audience. The party started off as an intimate affair in the confines of the upstairs space of Pony Bar (later Boney), before finding a true home in the legendary basement space of the Mercat Cross. Since then, James has regularly graced the decks at some of Melbourne’s most iconic nightspots, equally adept at delivering funk and disco laden suppertime soundtracks as heaving excursions into deep dance floor dynamics. Drawing from a vast, genre-defying collection, James’ sets offer the listener/dancer a guided tour through the fundamentals of depth, always evolving and never stagnant, a glimpse into the now, with a respectful nod to what’s come before.
