UIC (the Urban I-Land Collective) is a genre defying outfit, with a subby you can feel, reminiscent of a Docklands Settlement inspired and truly Bristol soundscape. 

Burly and belligerent bass driven rhythms grapple with the sometimes manic, always melodious guitar for your full attention as you bounce your head to the dynamic drum patterns. 

Kinetic keys and vibrant vocals complete the already full picture. They won’t be contained and when you partake neither will you.

My latest launch Black-Notes from Me

Black is a weird, heavy, messy record. And that’s kind of the point.

I didn’t want it to sound polished or “correct.” I wanted it to sound true. The whole thing was built from scraps—real radio broadcasts, weird animation dialogues, cartoon effects, layers of ambient sounds, and a bunch of instrumental recordings that I just sat down and played, usually once, and then kept whatever came out. A lot of it is improvised. I don’t usually go back and edit or re-record. 
If it feels honest in the moment, it stays.

I wanted to make something that sounded like the inside of the mind when you're half-asleep, overthinking, or reliving something you don’t fully understand. That’s what Black is. It’s not made to entertain. It’s not here to impress you. It’s here to reflect that weird space between memory and dream—where things feel distorted but still deeply real. Which creates the co

In general, the music I make leans toward the unorthodox and experimental. I mess with atonality, weird rhythms, broken structures—sometimes on purpose, sometimes because that’s just how it comes out. I’ve never been interested in “perfect” music. I care more about tension, confusion, things that feel a little off. That kind of discomfort is where a lot of meaning lives.

My ideas usually come from very visual places. I’ll have this scene in my head—a mood, a weird flash, a voice—and that becomes the seed. It might be triggered by a painting, a lyric, a random sound, or just something I’m feeling that I am not keen to explain in words. 
So I try to explain it in sound instead.

I believe that any 'tension' is beneficial to art and am driven by themes that are often perceived as depressive, detached, abstract, and tense - qualities that I embrace; and draw inspiration from to create..
I don’t think it’s negative. I think it’s beautiful...

If you’re listening to Black, just know: most of what you hear was made in one take, in whatever state I was in that day. It's layered, yes—but it’s also very raw. This album isn’t about perfection. It’s about presence. It’s a document of moments I didn’t want to polish away.

There are descriptions and trivia sections written for many of the pieces. Initially, many of these songs were intended to be paired with and displayed alongside stories or (mainly narrative and prose) poetry that I have written over the years.

"I strive to create unorthodox and experimental music characterized by atonal and irrational rhythmic qualities. These creative choices stem from a blend of musical taste and a lack of technical skills. My creative process often begins with a vivid scene in my mind, sparked by reflections on various art forms such as paintings, songs, and literature. I believe that any 'tension' is beneficial to artistic quality and am driven by themes that are often perceived as depressive, detached, abstract, and tense - qualities that I embrace as accurate representations. I draw inspiration from these sources to craft 'unique' musical compositions. Setting aside fancy words: more often than not, my recordings are spontaneous improvisations captured in a single take, layered together to narrate not a captivating experience but to depict the 'scene' in my mind..."-F
