Are the Philadelphia Phillies 2023 World Series Contenders? Last season Bryce Harper, Kyle Schwarber, Zack Wheeler and the Phillies caught lightning in a bottle and returned to the World Series for the first time since 2009... falling to the Houston Astros 4 games to 2. The Phillies traded prospect, Hao-Yu Lee, to the Detroit Tigers in exchange for pitcher Michael Lorenzen. On today’s episode of “Here's The Thing,” filling in for Thomas Arnone, Michael Chromiak and former Philadelphia Phillies pitcher Mitch Williams discuss the Phillies as they end a great week by going 5-2.  The Phillies won their series over the Miami Marlins and the Kansas City Royals.  The Phillies host the Washington Nationals for four games to start the week and the Minnesota Twins for three games to end the week.  After taking blame for the loss on Wednesday, Trea Turner returned to Citizens Bank Park on Friday to multiple standing ovations from the Phillies crowd.  On Saturday, he gave the crowd even more reasons to cheer as he hit a go ahead 3-run home-run and followed that up with an RBI double to add on.  Trea is riding a 3-game hitting streak as we open a new week. 

Trea had a rough series in Miami despite the team playing pretty well. The Phillies themselves took 3 out of 4 games and honestly should have won the game they lost. The Phillies bullpen could’t hold a 3 run lead late in the game and finally an error from Turner gave the Marlins the win. Turner also came up to the plate in extra innings with runners on 2nd and 3rd and a chance to blow the game open but couldn’t get a hit to do that. The Phillies won series’ against the Kansas City Royals and the Washington Nationals before losing the final series against the Minnesota Twins.  As the Philadelphia Sixers struggle to find a trade partner for “superstar” James Harden he has fired back and mentioned that he will not report to training camp.  The Philadelphia Eagles opened up the preseason losing to the Baltimore Ravens 20-19 Saturday night.  


Join Thomas, Nick, Brian, and Greg as they discuss the homestand for the Phillies.  Despite ending with a winning 6-4 record, this homestand for the Phillies was a disappointment. The Phillies lost the first game of the homestand to the Royals and then the second game of the double header to the Nationals bringing the Twins to town.  The Phillies started off the weekend by scoring 13 runs against the Twins on Friday only to score 1 run in Saturday and Sunday’s games combined.  With losing 2 out of 3 to the Twins the Phillies ended the homestand at 6-4.  The Phillies faced 3 teams that they are better than and should have at least gone 7-3 if not 8-2 on this homestand.  Trea Turner has seemed to turn things around and is riding a 9 game hit streak after receiving standing ovations to start the Royals series.  The Philadelphia Sixers naturally are struggling to find a trade partner for Captain Crumb James Harden.  Harden has announced that he will not show up for training camp despite his agent claiming he’s as hungry as he’s ever been while being in superb shape.  The Eagles lost their preseason opener to the Ravens 20-19.  The guys will end the show as they always do with their Crumb of the Week segment.

Philadelphia Phillies Lose Series to the Twins, End Homestand 6-4 | Agree 2 Disagree | A2D Radio

On today’s episode of “Here's The Thing,” filling in for Thomas Arnone, Michael Chromiak and former Philadelphia Phillies pitcher Mitch Williams kick things off with their thoughts on whether Taijuan Walker is a legit Cy Young candidate or not. So far this season in Walker’s 24 starts he has a 4.03 era, 106 K’s, 1.28 WHIP, and 131.2 innings pitched. While not having a great start against the Minnesota Twins on Saturday, Walker is tied for the most wins in the National League with a record of 13-5. Rumors have begun to circulate that  Rob Thomson is saying Walker might miss his next start due to workload management. 


The Phillies wrap things up at home with a 6-4 record.  They kicked off the week with a series win over the Washington Nationals, including an emotional and historic Wednesday when Michael Lorenzen threw his first-ever No-Hitter and Westin Wilson homered at his first at-bat. They would not be so lucky over the weekend, however,  losing the series to the Minnesota Twins. Yet, in the wake of defeat, Trea Turner’s hitting streak was extended to 9, while Nick Castellanos saw his 13-game hit streak come to an end Sunday. JT Realmuto has also shown to be getting on track this past week. 

This week it’s a quick trip to Canada for a 2 game series against the Toronto Blue Jays, a rare 2 days off and then the Washington Nationals look for revenge but this time on their home turf inside our Nation’s Capital. How will the extended time off fare for this MLB club?

The Phillies and Nationals are playing on Sunday Night Baseball live from Williamsport, PA, home of the Little League World Series.  The James Harden and Philadelphia Sixers saga continues as Harden continues to be vocal on social media about being wronged by the Sixers and Daryl Morey.  The Philadelphia Eagles tied the Cleveland Browns, 18-18, on Thursday evening in game two of the NFL preseason.  The Eagles host the Indianapolis Colts this Thursday for their third and final preseason home game.


Join Thomas Arnone, Nick DelGozzo, Brian Wilson, and Greg Milakovic as they look back at the Phillies and Nationals game and weekend series. The Phillies started the weekend off slowly by losing Friday night’s game in disappointing fashion and then going through the motions in Saturday’s game until the 7th inning.  The Phillies offense was on the struggle bus until Nick Castellanos launched a 3 run home run to tie the game in the 7th inning.  What happened in the 8th inning is still shocking but boy was it fun. Trea Turner started the scoring hitting a solo home run to lead off the 8th inning.  Bryson Stott broke the game open by hitting a 3 run home run later in the inning, followed by another solo home run from Turner to cap the scoring in the 8th.  The Phillies ended up winning 12-3.  


The fellas will give the latest update on the James Harden vs Philadelphia Sixers saga before briefly touching on the latest Eagles preseason game against the Browns.  Finally, the guys will end the show as they always do with their Crumb of the Week segment.

Philadelphia Phillies vs Washington Nationals Postgame | Agree 2 Disagree | A2D Radio

On today’s episode of “Here's The Thing,”  Michael Chromiak, Thomas Arnone, and former Philadelphia Phillies pitcher Mitch Williams take a look at the Phillies series against the Washington Nationals including the Little League Classic, the biggest concerns are heading into the final months of the MLB season, and their upcoming battles with the San Francisco Giants and St Louis Cardinals.  

Sunday night, the Philadelphia Phillies, in the final game of a 3 game series against the Nationals, lost the Little League Classic and thus the series. The Phillies, fresh off splitting the 2 game series against the Toronto Blue Jays, were hoping to keep some momentum alive. That would all come to a halt Friday when they lost 8-7. Saturday however, the Phillies exploded late in the game to win 12-3. With the San Francisco Giants and St Louis Cardinals lined up for the week, can the Phillies hold on to the 2nd palace spot in the NL East?

September is right around the corner and the MLB Regular Season is coming to a close. In a week where the Phillies played only five games, they managed to put up 32 runs while their opponents could only come up with 21. Yet the Phillies still managed to lose 3 out of the 5 games. Not exactly the week you’d expect from a playoff bound team. It leaves us all wondering one thing. Is the Phillies pitching a bigger concern than the offense? Let us know in the comments below.  

Moving on from the past, we look towards the future. Tonight the Giants walk into Citizens Bank Park to start a 3 game series. Aaron Nola is set to take on Scott Alexander in game 1,while Taijuan Walker and Michael Lorenzen are set to start the following two games. Can arguably the 3 greatest starters on this roster set the tone and give our offense the room to breathe? Can  Kyle Schwarber, Trea Turner, Bryce Harper, and Nick Castellanos get some fire under their bats and take some pressure away from the Phillies pitchers?

Up And Down

The Philadelphia Phillies saw another string of victories at home this week. Starting out the week against former manager Gabe Kapler and his San Francisco Giants, the Phillies were dominant on offense. Throughout the 3 game series, the Phillies put up 20 runs and won two games which secured them the series win. Later in the week, the St. Louis Cardinals were reminded why this team was in the World Series last year. The Cardinals didn’t stand a chance as the Phillies put up a combined 22 runs over the span of 3 games while St Louis only managed to bring 3 runners across home plate. With that sweep, the Phillies would end the week at 5-1, and 7-3 in their last 10. Can this momentum continue as a new week of MLB action continues inside Citizens Bank Park? 

Last week, Los Angeles Angels superstar pitcher Shohei Ohtani was revealed to have a torn UCL which has brought his incredible pitching season to an abrupt end. However, his MLB season continues as he will take the Angels designated hitter spot. Former Philadelphia Phillies pitcher Mitch Williams, joined by Tom Arnone, and Michael Chromiak, breaks down this injury, if it will need a second Tommy John surgery and what is Ohtani’s future with the Angels? Is Shohei Ohtani still worth $500 million? Let us know what you think in the comments below. 

Looking ahead, the Phillies welcome the Los Angeles Angels and the Milwaukee Brewers for two more 3 game series. The Angels will be without local icon Mike Trout who was recently placed on the injured list and as already discussed, Ohtani won’t take the mound. The Brewers are sitting pretty at the top of the NL Central and have been dominant in their last 10 taking sweeping the San Diego Padres, Minnesota Twins and the Texas Rangers. Williams, Arnone and Chromiak give us a glimpse into the week ahead and if the Phillies can hold onto their top spot in the MLB Wild Card race.
