Down by the Butter Slip wall, Petronilla cries,
Under the busker’s Arch, hidden from the skies;
Her sigh is a sad, sad harmony,
To each singer’s plaintive song,
Listen, listen to her voice,
That sings of a terrible wrong.

Kilkenny heard her cries 
when they burned her at the stake:
The flames rose to the skies
Round the witch they flogged to break.
But Petronella’s name remained, 
The long ages they recall
The Witchwoman of Kilkenny 
Who sings by the Butter Slip wall.
