Welcome to Belonging and Beyond: Exploring Belonging Through How We Live and Die, brought to you by Princess Alice Hospice with your hosts Rach Basak, Head of Community Involvement and Support and Sarah Dowd, Head of Inclusion.
In this series, we’ll have honest conversations about inclusion, belonging, and the barriers created in society for some. Together with guests from all walks of life, we’ll be unpacking big questions like: What does belonging look like? Who gets to belong? And how can we build communities where everyone feels seen and included?

Today, we’re honoured to be joined by Shirley from One Voice 4 Travellers, a passionate advocate for Gypsy, Roma, and Traveller women, girls, and families. Shirley’s story is one of strength, community, and lived experience as a woman from the Romany community. 
In this episode, Shirley guides us through the unique customs and rituals surrounding dying, death, and bereavement within the Traveller community. We’ll hear how these traditions shape experiences of loss, and why understanding and respecting them is so important—especially in healthcare settings, where cultural understanding can make all the difference.

Sorgearbeit ist das Fundament jeder Gesellschaft. Doch oft bleibt sie unsichtbar, wird abgewertet und die Menschen, die sie leisten, isoliert und ausgebeutet. Während Sorgearbeitende für andere sorgen, bleibt ihre eigene soziale Absicherung meist prekär. Wer trägt Sorge für sie?

Die Konferenz beleuchtet die Mechanismen des systematischen Raubs, der alltäglich an Sorgearbeitenden stattfindet. Wir diskutieren die Zusammenhänge zwischen transnationalen Arbeitsmärkten, sozialer Reproduktion, globalen Ausbeutungsketten und verkörperten Enteignungspolitiken: Wie hängt die Unsichtbarmachung und Abwertung von Sorgearbeit mit Profitlogik zusammen? Wer trägt Sorge in unserer Gesellschaft – und auf wessen Kosten? Welche Rolle spielen rassifizierte Arbeitsmigrant:innen in diesen Prozessen? Und was wäre, wenn Sorgearbeit ins Zentrum gesellschaftlicher Organisation rücken würde?

Ein Fokus liegt auf den Arbeits- und Lebensbedingungen von 24-Stunden-Betreuer:innen und Erntearbeiter:innen. Beide Gruppen leisten gesellschaftlich notwendige Arbeit, sichern die Versorgung und erhalten Leben – jedoch meist unter unsicheren und oft entrechteten Bedingungen. In Keynotes, Podiumsdiskussionen, Workshops und Filmvorführungen suchen Aktivist:innen der IG24 und der Sezonieri-Kampagne sowie Wissenschaftler:innen nach Strategien für solidarische und gerechtere Arbeits- und Lebensbedingungen.

Das FORUM STADTPARK ist ein Produktions- und Präsentationsort für zeitgenössische Kunst. Organisiert als Künstler*innenverein, steht das Haus für einen erweiterten Kunstbegriff und für spartenübergreifendes Arbeiten in den Bereichen

Architektur, Literatur, Bildende Kunst, Film, Fotografie, Medienkunst, Gesellschaftspolitik, Musik, Theater, Performance, Theorie.

Es ist der Anspruch des Hauses, Labor und Plattform für viele Szenen der lokalen, Österreichischen und internationalen Kulturproduktion zu sein. Gegründet wurde das FORUM STADTPARK 1959 in Graz, unter anderem von Othmar Carli, Gustav Zankl, Siegfried Neuburg, Emil Breisach und Günter Waldorf. Sie adaptierten das leer stehende Grazer „Stadtpark-Cafe" für Kunstveranstaltungen. Der Name FORUM STADTPARK bezeichnet deshalb sowohl die Aktionsgemeinschaft, als auch den Ort mit der Anschrift Stadtpark 1. 

Heute finden pro Jahr etwa 190 Veranstaltungen im FORUM STADTPARK statt – der Großteil davon bei freiem Eintritt. Das Haus ist darüber hinaus barrierefrei zugänglich, verwendet Open Source Software, fährt mit Ökostrom und ist rauchfrei.
