A sparse and melancholic reinterpretation of the George Michael classic  slowed down and dream-soaked.

There’s no saxophone here  just the echo of its memory, recast as a haunting blend of icy synth and expressive lead guitar. Tuned to DADGAE with a capo on the first fret and dropped into B♭ minor, the open guitar tones ripple like water, flanged and reverberant, floating in a space between longing and silence.

A soft drum machine ticks like a pulse beneath the surface steady, subdued, and soaked in reverb. This version whispers rather than wails, walking the line between confession and catharsis in a fog of late-night introspection.

Man’s Lament is a cinematic UK rap confessional — a spiritual war cry told through grime-infused drums, gunshot symbolism, and raw introspection. Inspired by Kendrick’s BLOOD, 2Pac’s Temptations, and Akon’s Locked Up, ManLikeKofi unpacks temptation, shame, and the battle for holiness.

Laced with sharp cultural references — from George Michael’s Careless Whisper to Oxide & Neutrino’s Bound 4 Da Reload — this track blurs the line between sermon and street poetry. One gunshot marks the fall. Another, the fightback. The last? A reminder: the war isn’t over.

I’ve been crafting music since 2004 starting with lo-fi bedroom recordings and a heart full of strange weather. These days, I blend dream pop, folktronica, ambient textures, drum machines and mythic storytelling into songs that explore memory, magic, and the sea.

Living on the Cornish coast, I draw deep from local folklore, spiritual journeys, and half remembered dreams. My work is shaped by place tides, ruins, starlit footpaths and by timeless themes of loss, wonder, and renewal.

Highlights include The Selkie EP, a shape-shifting folk tale in song, and The Pilgrim’s Path, my tenth album, tracing an inner and outer journey of transformation.

ManLikeKofi is the name of an eclectic artist and producer from East London, UK.

As his name suggests he is of Ghanaian heritage and attributes growing up around his father's highlife records as one of his many inspirations. Other inspirations from his childhood include Soul, Jazz, Funk and Gospel. However, he celebrates Hip-Hop as his greatest influence, growing up and studying the likes of Jay-Z, A Tribe Called Quest, Kanye West, Clipse and Kano as just a few of his many muses.    

As a result, MLK has the versatility to switch between focused, rhymatic rap flows to soulful melodic crooning and he is often celebrated for his cadence, which he marries with his own productions for a complimentary relationship. 

Currently finishing off his first solo EP, ManLikeKofi has started a monthly YouTube series called Hunnid Squared Heures Series.
