In Episode 9, we interviewed Dr. Kevin McPartland who shares his research about a Kentucky community that was torn apart by violence before the Civil War. He also worked as a Graduate Associate at the Civil War Governors of Kentucky project which is managed by the Kentucky Historical Society. In his interview, Kevin talks a lot about his work, and he also talks a lot about the manager of the project, Dr. Charles Welsko. But, after we recorded the interview, we realized that you, our listeners, might want to know more about CWGK (as we call it) from Dr. Welsko himself.

Le vie del male sono infinite, scritto da Claudio Calabrese e narrato da Lorenzo Loreti, è l’ottava indagine dell’ispettore Andrea Pantaleo, e si presenta come uno dei capitoli più intensi e oscuri della serie. Con una durata di 10 ore e 5 minuti, questo audiolibro cattura sin da subito per l’atmosfera inquietante e il ritmo serrato.

Ambientato tra il 1990 e il 2017, il romanzo intreccia più linee temporali in modo efficace, raccontando la misteriosa sparizione di diversi bambini nella Foresta di Mercadante e l’efferato omicidio di un uomo molti anni dopo. A condurre l’indagine è, naturalmente, l’ispettore Pantaleo, che si trova di fronte non solo a un crimine orrendo, ma anche a un possibile legame diretto tra il caso e il suo fidato collega Nicola Lomonaco.

Lorenzo Loreti, come narratore, riesce a trasmettere la tensione e la drammaticità del racconto con grande efficacia. La sua voce accompagna l’ascoltatore nei momenti più cupi e nei colpi di scena, restituendo vividamente le emozioni dei personaggi, soprattutto lo smarrimento e il conflitto interiore di Pantaleo.

Calabrese costruisce un intreccio complesso, ma ben calibrato, in cui passato e presente si fondono per rivelare lentamente una verità scioccante. Il vero punto di forza di questa storia sta nel confronto tra la giustizia e il legame personale, e nella capacità dell’autore di esplorare i lati più oscuri dell’animo umano, senza mai perdere il filo della suspense.

Consigliato a chi ama i gialli italiani con atmosfere cupe, investigazioni profonde e un protagonista umano, fallibile ma determinato. Questo capitolo conferma ancora una volta la solidità della serie e lascia con il desiderio di proseguire subito con il volumen successivo.
