We're bombarded with celebrity endorsements and, maybe like you, I've had enough!

Sometimes, even I am worried about my brain.  

What on earth (or NOT on earth, as it were) is this latest Interbay track all about?  What the hell does "Kmartian" even mean?  Is that a dayglow Audrey II about to chomp on a convenience store in the thumbnail image?  

Understandable questions all--though, the last one is...something I never thought I'd have to imagine, much less explain.  

This track was started when I was still posting tracks with videos on Facebook (which I did from January '23 to May '24--there are 140 tracks on the Interbay music Facebook page, some of them are even entertaining.)  However, when I started posting tracks here on SoundCloud, I made it a rule that every song had to have at least some sort of vocal component (I'd made too many instrumentals when I was posting on Facebook, I was warned)...and this track did not have any vocals.  

So, it sat...with the instrumental "done"...in the infamous Phantom Laboratories West Vault, where finished experiments or experiments still being worked on will go, when I'm working on something else (or, as in the case of "Spelunking," "Carronade," and "Gaslit," when I can't spend the time I usually can producing music--and thanks to you for enjoying those tracks, by the way!)  

You also may have heard that I will give tracks-in-progress a temporary project name--based on the mood, the genre or the instruments used (sometimes, just a cool word)...it doesn't necessarily lock the track into place, but often, I'll challenge myself to work around the name, so that it ends up being a good track title.

The temporary name for today's track was "k-factor"--which, you might guess would be Interbay's attempt at K-pop...but it wasn't (you're welcome!)  No, the name came from the "fact" that I'd used plugins that started with the letter K for the instrumentation (before it went into the vault--after I brought it back out to work on in order to post it today, I didn't hold myself to that restriction...probably why this track ISN'T called "K-Factor".)  

...but, I DID want to post a track, if not today then relatively soon, whose title starts with the letter "K."  (Again, my brain works in inexplicable ways--I don't know WHY I wanted a track that started with the letter K...but I I did.)  

I don't know where the choice to turn this track into a synthpop appreciation letter towards a big box discount department store chain that has gone out of business (other than their name starts with the letter K.)  I also don't know where the choice to blend aliens from outerspace into that idea, either.  (Well, my BRIAN, obviously...but...what sort of random idea generator is whirring away up there...and does it need servicing???)    

So there you have it...a synthpop appreciation letter to a bankrupt company that didn't really care that much about me, who might have actually been an entity, of some sort, that originated on Mars.  Because...sure, why not.  

Forget it, pg...it's Interbay.
