In dieser Folge des Diabetes-Anker-Podcasts geht es um ein Thema, das viele betrifft, über das aber noch immer viel zu selten gesprochen wird: den Zusammenhang zwischen Diabetes und Depressionen. Studien zeigen, dass Menschen mit Diabetes ein deutlich höheres Risiko haben, an Depressionen zu erkranken – bedingt durch die ständige Auseinandersetzung mit der chronischen Erkrankung, psychosoziale Belastungen, aber auch durch direkte körperliche Faktoren wie Blutzuckerschwankungen.

Unser Gast, die Psychotherapeutin Susanne Baulig, beschäftigt sich seit über zehn Jahren mit Psychodiabetologie und gibt Einblicke in ihre Arbeit, Erfahrungen und Erkenntnisse. Wir sprechen darüber, wie man unterscheiden kann, ob es sich um „nur“ schlechte Laune oder um eine ernsthafte depressive Episode handelt, welche Warnzeichen es gibt und wie sowohl Betroffene selbst als auch ihr Umfeld sensibel reagieren können.

Susanne Baulig erklärt, welche Rolle das ärztliche Team spielt, warum psychische Gesundheit immer mitgedacht werden sollte und welche Möglichkeiten es gibt, Hilfe zu finden – trotz langer Wartezeiten auf Therapieplätze. Außerdem geht es um praktische Tipps für den Alltag: kleine Selbstchecks, digitale Gesundheitsanwendungen, die Unterstützung durch Familie und Freunde und Wege, Resilienz aufzubauen. Bewegung, soziale Kontakte oder auch Achtsamkeit können entscheidende Bausteine sein.
