This is a song I wrote in June/July 2025 for no particular reason. It plays with the word discombobulation, which means an embarrassing feeling that leaves a person confused, or a confused or disorderly state, and was coined in the USA some time in the early 19th century.

This recording features me on vocals, guitar, cavaquinho, descant recorder, tenor recorder and (GarageBand) drums. Here are the words:

Discombobulation
is causing consternation
and fueling frustration
among the population

Much misinformation
and devious deception
creeps like a conflagration
across the whole nation

There's a lot of lamentation
and not much motivation,
and a deep disinclination
to solve the situation

Cool cooperation

By the way, combobulation means the opposite of discombobulation; i.e. means an orderly, composed, organized state.

Eric Dahl is a songwriter with ties to the state of Washington on both sides of the Cascade mountains. He was born in Colville in the northeastern corner of the state. His father was a teacher from Spokane who soon moved with his family to western Washington. Dahl’s mother is a native of Leavenworth with relatives in the Wenatchee Valley. Eric grew up in Kent and south Seattle, but thanks to his maternal grandfather and uncles, he worked in the Leavenworth fruit orchards and hiked from an early age in the Cascade Mountains to the high lakes. Later he studied and published poetry at Whitman College in Walla Walla, the University of Washington in Seattle, and at Oxford University where he was awarded the Isis Poetry Prize.

In music, there's a Louis Armstrong quote that goes "musicians don't retire, they stop when there's no more music in them." Such is the absolute truth for songwriter, producer, and artist Alex Nackman, whose has 20 years of experience to find out what persistence means in an ever changing industry and musical landscape.

But, with 7 albums, hundreds of tour dates, and dozens of songs placed throughout television and film, Alex Nackman has found a way to see through the fog and have others see him, while running the proverbial career-gamut as a musician and artist.

Nackman, now 33, grew up in Sleepy Hollow, New York playing the violin as a child and later as a member of the prestigious Westchester Youth Symphony, before slowly moving towards guitar and piano as a teenager. It only grew from there as open-mics and coffee house gigs advanced toward the likes of The Roxy and Bowery Ballroom. 

Nackman currently lives in Brooklyn, New York. He produces, writes, and mixes music from his hstudio in Brooklyn, Matterhorn Sound.

I write songs and tunes, play a few instruments, and like singing. To earn a living I run a website about languages and alphabets (Omniglot). I also make a podcasts about words and language on Radio Omniglot.

Rick launched the Life Over Coffee global training network in 2008 to bring hope and help for you and others by creating resources that spark conversations for transformation. His primary responsibilities are resource creation and leadership development, which he does through speaking, writing, podcasting, and educating.

In 1990 he earned a BA in Theology and, in 1991, a BS in Education. In 1993, he received his ordination into Christian ministry, and in 2000 he graduated with an MA in Counseling from The Master's University. In 2006 he was recognized as a Fellow of the Association of Certified Biblical Counselors (ACBC).
