Het Centraal Planbureau (CPB) onderzocht hoe het (voorgenomen) Europese klimaatbeleid – met ETS en CBAM – Nederlandse handelsstromen beïnvloedt richting 2035, wanneer er door ETS minder uitstootrechten zijn.

Het onderzoek laat zien dat door het Europese klimaatbeleid de export van Nederlandse sectoren die onder het ETS vallen vermindert en de invoer van deze goederen van buiten de EU toeneemt. Tegelijkertijd daalt de import van fossiele brandstoffen. Highlights:

EU-klimaatbeleid vermindert de afhankelijkheid van geïmporteerde fossiele brandstoffen.

Bedrijven binnen de EU gaan in toenemende mate met elkaar concurreren en hun emissie-intensiteit zal hierin een steeds grotere rol spelen.

Als de overheid de overgang naar hernieuwbare energie actief ondersteunt, draagt dit ook bij aan het verminderen van afhankelijkheid van fossiele brandstoffen en dus van het buitenland, en aan de concurrentiekracht van de Nederlandse industrie.
