The governor faced the crowd, their voices filled with spite
The priests and elders pressed their case, demanding to incite
Fearing the fury of their hate, he yielded to their cries
The Son of Man condemned, led away to be crucified

The soldiers stripped Him bare, their voices multiplied 
A crown of thorns was placed, a purple robe was tied
They gave Him reed in hand, jeered and knelt in mockery
Spat upon His face, and struck His head repeatedly

The slope of Skull Hill rose, dust and stones inclined
His strength began to fail, His blood and sweat combined

The rugged beam received Him, heavy with His frame

Iron pierced His hands and feet, each tendon split with pain
Shoulders gashed and mangled, the weight began to strain

They gambled His garments, each piece became a prize
His parched lips sought relief beneath the scorching skies 
The soldiers brought Him sour vinegar, and offered it in jest 
Yet blindness veiled their hardened hearts, denying Him their rest

He hung upon the timber, surrounded by their scorn
