Food System Repercussions of the Russia-Ukraine War
2023 Borlaug Dialogue Breakout session

This session will examine the impacts of the conflict in Ukraine on food systems around the world. Russia’s February 2022 invasion triggered trade disruptions and dramatic price increases for energy, agricultural commodities, and fertilizers, which were already high following the COVID-19 lockdowns and value chain disruptions. While international prices have come down from the peaks seen in 2022, domestic inflation levels remain high in many low- and middle-income countries, and food and fertilizer affordability remains a challenge. The war has also led to a sizable drop in agricultural production in Ukraine, which has been an important exporter of grains and cooking oil. Given that 30 percent of Ukraine’s agricultural land may be riddled with land mines, production in this major breadbasket may not recover swiftly when hostilities cease. In line with the 2023 Borlaug Dialogue theme of “Harnessing Change,” the event will also focus on efforts already underway or required to improve systemic resilience, recover from shocks, and sustainably nourish all people in light of the significant shock the conflict has had on food systems around the world.

"I den aktuella situationen i Irak är det för närvarande inte möjligt att använda de traditionella metoderna för att samla in data. Det finns en betydande skillnad jämfört med Sverige, där man kan tillämpa de bästa metoderna för att samla in svar från medborgarna. Detta problem beror inte på bristande teknologi i Irak, eftersom tekniken finns tillgänglig, utan snarare på bristande förtroende för att kunna genomföra undersökningar på ett tillförlitligt sätt. Detta blir särskilt tydligt när det handlar om känsliga ämnen som religion och politik."

This week, Wendy interviews Abe Newman about his new co-authored book, Underground Empire: How America Weaponized the World Economy.
Professor Newman received his BA in International Relations from Stanford University and his PhD in political science from the University of California, Berkeley. He is a professor in the School of Foreign Service and Government Departments at Georgetown University. His research focuses on the ways in which economic interdependence and globalization have transformed international politics. He is the co-author of Underground Empire: How America Weaponized the World Economy (Holt/Penguin 2023); Of Privacy and Power: the Transatlantic Struggle over Freedom and Security (Princeton University Press 2019), co-author of Voluntary Disruptions: International Soft Law, Finance, and Power (Oxford University Press: 2018), author of Protectors of Privacy: Regulating Personal Data in the Global Economy (Cornell University Press: 2008) and co-editor of How Revolutionary was the Digital Revolution: National Responses, Market Transitions, and Global Technologies (Stanford University Press: 2006). His work has appeared in a range of journals including Comparative Political Studies, International Organization, International Security, Nature, Science, and World Politics.

Instead he is using a fake Identity and this comes very easy for him, because Brad Pitt (and Abel Makkonen Tesfaye) are not Human Beings, they are ANNUNAKI Reptilian Hybrids, and they are SHAPESHIFTERS. THEY ARE ALSO USING TECH THAT ALLOWS THEM TO TURN INVISIBLE, MORE THAN LIKELY ENTERRING THE UVV SPECTRUM OF LIGHT AND THIS ALSO MAKES THEM ABLE TO WALK THROUGH WALLS. THEY HAVE BEEN ILLEGALLY STALKING ME AND HOLDING AND ANGELINA JOLIE HOSTAGE, AND RAPING HER.
