SIA - My Love ( LIVE Vic Brauwers + String Quartet)

A research-rooted artistic collaboration between composer Jessi Harvey and choreographer Julynn Wildman, based on the mating songs and dances of the Japanese Rhino Beetle research performed at the Evolutionary Biology Lab at the University of Montana. Each movement corresponds to a different stage of the mating process and uses data to create the overall structure, tonality, motives, textures, and all other aspects of the music.

Inspired by Percy Grainger’s “Molly on the Shore”, MarcuServingMoore is my first clarinet quartet that I composed. This piece takes the main ideas from Grainger’s original piece and reimagines them in a minor key with afro influences. The title of the piece uses my entire name, as it has the same number of syllables as the original piece it was derived from. I am playing each part in this recording and I hope you enjoy it!
