Cheesy Bangers Mix - Fardy

I have to admit that I tried REALLY hard to post another track with a track title that started with the letter "X"--I've got three such tracks that are about 3/4ths of the way finished.  

Unfortunately, the odds of me finishing any of those today are, sadly, <0%.  

But instead, to start your weekend--here's a fun, cheesy bit of synth pop from Interbay to make your older brothers smile and might get people dancing, despite themselves, at your house party!  

Have you ever heard of the band Silicon Teens?  It wasn't really a band, but they pretended to be.  It was actually all the work of Daniel Miller, who founded Mute records--without which, we probably wouldn't have had the type of electro pop we got in the '80s.  Daniel put out an album, as Silicon Teens, called "Music for Parties"...and it was mono-synth cheese covers of some classic songs from the 50s and 60s, and a couple of originals.    

The album came out in 1980, but it had been preceded by a couple of singles--including the Silicon Teens version of "Memphis, Tennessee" and then their cover of "Judy in Disguise (with Glasses)".  If none of this rings a bell, they also got a song on the soundtrack for the movie "Planes, Trains, and Automobiles" (which is also on the same album, the song was "Red River Rock"...which is an instrumental.)  

Well, THIS song  ("Kicks" by Interbay) is my homage to the Silicon Teens.  It is ALSO a cheesy synth pop tribute to a band that wouldn't normally be heard doing cheesy synth pop songs.  In fact, they were punks...or, perhaps, they were the first pop punk band?  (It's possible, certainly.)  As they put out more albums, they get even more adventurous than that...adding horns and strings to their arrangements, and not needing every song to go at punk rock pogo-worthy speeds.  

IYKYK, especially if I share the hint that the song being paid tribute was the favorite song of all time of legendary (R.I.P.) UK radio dj, John Peel...who, as you can see in the thumbnail, has a line from the song carved into his tombstone.  

This isn't actually my favorite song by the band in question, nor was it their highest charting (in the UK) record--but it is their most classic song, the one they are most remembered for...at least in the UK.  Sadly, they never scratched the surface of the US market--not even getting a video on MTV.  Which is a shame, they're awesome!  

So, enjoy sounds that originated in Derry, Northern Ireland...filtered through the meager (and bemused) synth pop skills of an old man in Seattle.

Dance in your kitcchen!  Rock out in your car! Put it on a mixtape and confuse all of your pretentious friends!  Play it in the club and watch the dancefloor empty, except for that one girl with the amazing hair who really likes all the best music--or, at least, the stuff that YOU like.

EDIT:  Yes, there are parts of this that sound like "Legs" by ZZ Top.  No, that's not intentional.  

EDIT 2:  Yes, there is an "original" version of this that doesn't just use snippets of vocals...but the whole thing.  (Just as there's an original version of "Walk"--posted awhile a go.)  Perhaps I'll start a Patreon and have those tracks as a reward for patrons?  Maybe...someday...
