Emma Pollock: "Not a reference to the (highly recommended) US sitcom of the same name, but a long, hot summer summer of teenage turbulence.  I grew up in Castle Douglas and, like most teenagers, spent a lot of my time hanging out in either one of the two local parks (the Top Park and the Bottom Park).  

I remember in 1984 , when the country was in the grip of the miners’ strikes, me and my friends became embroiled in a summer-long ‘turf-war’ with the miners’ children who had been given a free holiday in the local caravan park.  Cue failed getaways on bikes and punctured dinghies on Carlingwark Loch, most of which ended with the shit getting kicked out of me."
