Kate Wolf speaks to the author Deborah Levy about her new book, a collection of essays called The Position of Spoons: And Other Intimacies. The piece collected here cite Levy’s early influences from French writers like Colette, Simone de Beauvoir and Marguerite Duras to JG Ballard and Anna Quinn. The collection also moves through snippets of Levy’s life: her relationship to her mother, her youth in dreary London, her abiding interest in surrealism and psychoanalysis, the way inspiration strikes and then takes shape for her novels, and the sensual and aesthetic pleasures of food and nature. In her review of the book for LARB, Grace Linden writes: “It is evident to everyone who reads Levy that language is her plaything….her words are lit from within.”
Also, Emily Witt, author of Health and Safety: A Breakdown. returns to recommend A Song for the River by Philip Connors.

I see the view of a store parking lot below on my grandfather’s shoulders, the moon above me barely escaping my reach, 
i think i could have a place with the stars, i believe i am something special. 

i have faith in the grasshoppers, my mother, angel wings costumes, 
myself when the adults around me say they can’t wait to see who i make myself. 

the warmth of another body next me, knowing i’m loved, being able it to hold it in my hand; i can trick myself for a perfect instant, this is all i’ve ever deserved, this is forever. 

running through the halls, winding down next to a corner i scraped my elbow when i was three, chasing a hopeless dreams for the belief it’s enough passion to get me through the day to day. 
bruises up and down my legs, the feeling of being dirty by your own act, a sin no one else can take the fault but you for who you are, and what you couldn’t become. 

the way my hair dances beneath water, i have been searching for that feeling of lightness in every way i can survive in this body, bandaged and cold, taking the place of another’s life by mistake but i think the only way i can contain the star is to give up 
who i would be and be who i was meant to be.

This is another one off the upcoming album, and is directed mainly to the friends I lost when I had moved away from my hometown, and also moving schools, and overall my feelings towards such people today, The art being one of the paintings in my childhood school walls, which this picture seems to be the only documentation of it i could find, a niche reference thats symbolic to those I knew. if anyone I knew/know from that time is reading this, I hope things are goin well for ya, and ill cherish our time always. This one is less of a frontrunner for the album but is still one I felt that works as a rollout drop, as I will be trying to post more and more til it drops, Sorry for being semi inconsistent, crunching down on alot of things in life, and this project, I hope you guys will listen and feel my message, if i can do that, ive achieved my goal. Northern Sky is a Detroit/London-based collaborative formed in 2021, crafting ethereal music that blends dreamy soundscapes with cinematic depth. Their music strikes a delicate balance between melody, emotion, and magic, influenced by timeless artists like Nick Drake and Norah Jones, as well as modern acts such as Beach House and The National.

At the heart of Northern Sky is Rose White, whose voice, like a soft breeze at twilight, guides the band’s sound with transcendent beauty.
