A sci-fi double bill that takes us to the far reaches of the universe and to the distant future and back again. 

Adrian Tchaikosvky concludes his astonishing Children of… trilogy with Children of Memory. Building on the combination of evolution, biology and tech in the previous instalments, this final chapter goes darker and deeper into what we even mean by “real”. It is also quite frighteningly current with some of the themes and like classic sci-fi, often acts as a warning. 

Dr Rachel Handley is a philosopher at Trinity College and a science fiction author and poet. She joins me to chat about her collection Possible Worlds and Other Stories. A hugely entertaining book that delivers thought provoking and vivid stories with a wry sharp sense of humour. Oh, and a world of crabs.

Episode 9: Children of Memory and Possible Worlds...

There's something metronomic about the planet, Nod. 

The slide guitar was played on a telecaster whilst the heavier riffs came from a Duesenberg Paloma put through a modern amp.

This is another track for the Children of Memory project. The Witch isn't really a witch... it's Avrana Kern, the ancient god-like fusion of AI and human. But, to Liff, she's a witch. 
All guitar parts were played on a Deusenberg Paloma.

I've been on Soundcloud for six years now and it's been great exploring the work of other artists.  There is so much generosity of spirit on this platform, it's just what you need when most of your music is made solo. 

I started out playing classical and Spanish guitar, then took up flamenco to ease myself away from the confines of musical notation. As a result, Latin rhythms often creep into my music. 

A friend introduced me to steel string and electric guitars just a few years ago and I still find the scope they bring dizzying... but what fun!
