About the Instrument
The Descant Horn is a unique and specialized version of the French horn. While the two instruments share a similar structure, the Descant Horn is distinct in that it lacks the low F side of a standard horn. Instead, it focuses on the higher F side, making it the perfect choice for more delicate passages and higher note ranges. The Descant Horn's tubing is shorter—just 6 feet in length as compared to the 12 feet of a regular French horn—creating a harmonic series that is an octave higher than that of a regular horn. This allows for greater agility and ease in the upper register.
