Baxie talks to the legendary Zander Schloss from The Circle Jerks!  For nearly 40 years Zander has not only been the bass player for one of the most revered hardcore bands of all time, he's a jazz-trained musician who has starred in such films as the cult classic "Repo Man" with Emelio Estevez. On top of that, he's been involved in film scores and soundtracks in such films as "Sid & Nancy" and many others.  Zander talks about that plus his musical work with the likes of Mike Watt of The Minutemen, Bob Forrest from Thelonius Monster, and Joe Strummer from The Clash.  He also talks about his new incredibly personal solo album "Californias Burning". Zander's life story is absolutely amazing! Making The Bombs

I see a lot of people ignore, in NYC especially, the very real threat of gentrification. I was raised in Pelham Bay, The Bronx. I take pride in the variety of ethnicities that construct Pelham Bay. Made up of Puerto Ricans, Dominicans, Italians, Albanians, Vietnamese along with some others. This hood provided me with a sense of community. I took it for granted, till my family moved to Monroe, NY. Monroe was a setting where majority upper-middle class white folks look down at the POC folks coming into the area. It was here where I realized how important community/culture is, once I saw the lack of it. A lot of political clashes between my peers and I. I was forced around so many red pilled military brats/bootlickers who had no inkling of the real world or those inhabiting it. This caused me to miss NYC, along with it's perks, walkable sidewalks, delis on every corner, cultural diversity. In this time I really focused on my views. I figured I had to know where I stood on topics, if I was gonna have to fight for my right. 2023 comes around and I move into my place with my lovely Lina <3. Leaving upstate was the best thing to ever happen. My current home, East Flatbush is primarily made up of Haitians/Jamaicans. I walk down Flatbush Ave with pride, my home is full of beautiful people, music, delicious food, and COMMUNITY. I spent a lot of time researching my Taíno/Boricua roots, the effects of colonization, how we all became generationally mixed, etc. I realized how much I really resonate with my neighbors more than I knew. I look up to the revolutionary spirit of Haitians/Jamaicans. They rejected the modern day imperialism that shackles my island, Boriken. If you are ethnically from the Caribbean, Central Americas, or South America, with Native/African DNA, you should understand the the threat of being forced out of your home unwillingly. You should understand the threat of wealthy white people, who don't have any appreciation for culture, invading our communities. Taken from our homes, 500 years ago, to unwillingly work on the project that was "The U.S.A". Now we are here in the States, actively enslaved under Capitalism making chicken salad out of chicken shit. We formed our communities, to find a little piece of home while enslaved on stolen land. The elites of America, want to displace us again. We created the vibrant areas of NYC, as a compromise for the "New World", we didn't know just how popular our communities would become. Wherever people go, money follows, and the government always wants their hand in where the money is. We started making our own money with our small businesses, the wealthy want to take it all for themselves, concealing their theft as "cleaning up the hood". I got news for you, we don't need the bullshit "cleaning up". The same way we didn't need "cleaning up" when given disease, lands stolen, language erased, lifestyles erased. I don't want my historical Flatbush to be a drained, somber, and modern shell like Williamsburg ew. They target us from behind the scenes. They defund our D.O.E, overfund our militarized NYPD, which then over-police our low income brown/black communities. They make such investments and got the nerve to raise rent, encouraging wealthy white mfs to come move into our low income hoods so they can pay high rent. Anyone native to the area without rent control will have to kick rocks. NYPD pour drugs and guns into our low income hoods, to mass incarcerate black/brown people of course. Displacement! google REDLINING! I apologize for this big read, but there's a lot of feelings that go into my sentiment for many reasons. I hate that people ignore the problems of today. I'm very grateful to live in a city I love. I can't ignore the war waged on us from the elites, to continue to divide us, to continue to enslave us, because of our skin, our class, our culture. Gentrification is the new hip term for colonization, there is no line at all. free your mind. ONE LOVE.
