I talk in this shorter "Friday Food 4 Thought" episode about Calico Racing's Red Rock Canyon Marathon, about a 30 minute bus ride from downtown. During the race, we climbed a total of around 3,000 feet of elevation gain, but it was worth it for the majestic scenery. And I had some fellow runners, strangers, that motivated me to keep pushing. I talk about how they helped me, the leadup to this 26.2 miles in Vegas, how the race went overall, the view from/of the canyons, 

I close the podcast with a recap of the cool sites and shows I enjoyed during my first time ever to the Las Vegas strip, then my prayer to finish off this episode.

Professional touring multi-instrumentalist currently performing in Las Vegas as Trombonist/Keytarist with Cirque du Soleil’s Mad Apple.  She has performed on the GRAMMY Awards, “Good Morning America,” and “The Voice,” and over her career in music has worked with a variety of artists ranging from Musiq Soulchild to CeeLo Green to Fantasia and even Oprah Winfrey!  She has also served as Music Director for Melanie Fiona and Janelle Monáe, and, she is a Roland artist and Ultimate Ears brand ambassador.

NHTE 531 Tracyan Martin

This is my cover of Aaron Guidry's "From Chaos", which was originally performed by the Ronald Reagan High School Marching Band for their 2023 competition season.  This cover song is dedicated to the students, design team, directors and staff, volunteers and families.  

This project was initiated in July of 2023 with Aaron's approval, taking ten months to complete (working about an hour-a-week on it).  As before, I took the audio recordings from Reagan Band's final performances at both Super Regionals and UIL State, aligned them  to the original composition's tempos, mixed them...and then added a one-man metal band to it all.  Additional instruments are (lots of) guitars, bass and drums.  With this being my third effort at combining a live marching band and what people in my tiny circle would call 'progressive metal', I wanted to really challenge myself with everything from production quality, to programming, to metric modulation.  This project was so much fun, and I'm forever grateful Aaron trusted me to pursue it.

If there's anything I hope "...To Chaos" offers the familiar listener, it's to hear how far you can take a melody or a rhythm from its starting point.  Aaron's composition is so brilliant to me that I wanted to see just how far I could take a moment or vibe, and send it 'into chaos'.  I'd never expect anyone outside of this genre to understand or even enjoy this song, but for the committed musician, I hope it makes you smile or even laugh.

Lastly, I want to especially dedicate this project to Reagan Band directors Greg White and Katy Fehr.  Their leadership, passion for music and selfless example is felt from the stands, is resident in our children, and is appreciated more than I can convey.  I will miss them greatly.

Après un mois d’exploitation à l’Amphithéâtre Cogeco de Trois-Rivières, le spectacle « RBO : The Cirque » a su susciter l’appréciation de la critique et du public grâce à son mélange unique d’acrobaties, de chansons et de numéros comiques. Un pari réussi pour le metteur en scène, Jean-Guy Legault, qui souhaitait dépeindre sous toutes ses facettes l’univers du groupe éponyme, dans le cadre de la Série hommage du Cirque du Soleil. Notre journaliste, Félix Poncelet-Marsan, s’est entretenu avec lui pour faire le point sur sa démarche créative. « Ce qui est intéressant, souligne Jean-Guy Legault, c’est de travailler avec un groupe qui a déjà un univers musical – donc ça va très bien avec le cirque – en plus d’un univers de personnages et d’un univers humoristique. Il y avait comme trois niveaux sur lesquels on pouvait travailler pour changer la proposition et amener la créativité sur d’autres angles qu’une simple association musique/numéro visuel. Il y avait quelque chose à construire qui dépassait ça. »

Freezing winters, packed after-hours, and a scene that thrives just outside the spotlight is Montreal’s rhythm. This VA draws from that energy.  

Guy Laliberte invited a handful of local artists to rework Cirque du Soleil in their own language: raw, stripped-back, and built for the dance floor.  

Each remix brings something different to the table, but they’re united by a shared sense of restraint. The grooves are tight, and the low-end does most of the talking. You’ll recognize the DNA of the originals, but the context is new.
