In "Eater of Hope" Molly Rachel sees a vision of a possible alternate future where the world is in ruins due to an avoidable climate disaster. Her doppelganger has lost all connection to friends and family and has transformed into the epitome of shadow, and is now The Eater of Hope! Molly is fearful of this possible outcome and is overwhelmed. She tries to reason with her rival but her words seem hopeless. In our reality Molly Rachel is instead saved by the faith and love she develops by connecting with others and reaching people with her message.

Jupiter Signals - Eater of Hope!

Jill speaks about how climate change has contributed to the excessive heat and wildfires that affect her community in the summer months. Over the past six years she and her family have experienced two Level 1 fire evacuations where they had to leave their home immediately due to an approaching wildfire. 

Jill explains that she loves her local area, but feels intense anxiety when she thinks about living in and raising kids in an area so prone to burn. She also feels concern for the local wildlife and how animals are affected by wildfires.

Although she experiences anxiety, Jill also feels better prepared now for wildfire season. She and her neighbors have created defensible space around their homes and she knows the important things she needs to bring with her in case of future evacuations. Jill says that she used to look forward to the summertime, but now the season from mid-May to September is one of anxiety for her.

Aneesa describes the local yearly heatwave that occurs in Channai during the first week of May when the heat is unmitigated by sea breezes or cool tropical showers. This week of heat is broken by the arrival of the monsoon rains which usher in the cooler monsoon season.

In 2023, Aneesa was in Chennai mentoring students as they learned about climate change. The course involved story writing, field trips and meetings with activists, along with plenty of discussion and group work. Aneesa describes how usually the students were unaffected by the heat, but this year the heatwave stretched into the second and third weeks of May with no relief. The students' energy levels dropped and field trips had to be cancelled. 

The students' experience of the unusually long and intense heat enabled them to contextualize the data they had learned about. It made them more empathetic to people affected by the heat and motivated them to act.

Season 4: Post elections – What are the world's leading cities doing to combat the climate crisis?

In A Date With Reality, two people have a dinner date amidst an ecological catastrophe in Los Angeles where rising tides flood the city, even the wealthy neighborhoods. As the date progresses, it becomes apparent the man is completely delusional about the impending doom he is facing, and so the woman at first tries to dispel his fantastical notions that everything is okay. Exasperated by his inability to grasp the situation, she then unleashes an excoriating diatribe that ruthlessly exposes his flimsy complacency and privileged conceits. 

The piano accompaniment starts bright and optimistic with the man's fantasies about cheap romance and nostalgia for walks in his favorite park, but devolves into a shadowy, watery resonance of the righteous despair felt by the woman.

In all of us, there live similar mundane delusions. In reality, the ponderous world rests upon a pinhead above oblivion.

Shahzad Naveed is a freelance journalist from Mingora Swat, Pakistan. In his climate story, he speaks about the river Swat which is known for its scenic beauty. The area's natural beauty draws many tourists which is unfortunately contributing to pollution of the river. A bypass road was constructed along the banks of the Swat along with hotels and restaurants. These establishments dump sewage into the river. The river is now so polluted that now no one can swim in the water or use it for drinking or agriculture.

Climate Stories Project (CSP) is an educational and artistic forum for sharing personal stories about the effects of climate change on our lives and communities. CSP focuses on personal oral histories, which bring an immediacy to the sometimes abstract nature of climate change communication. Some of us may recount dramatic events such as floods and wildfires, or we may address our observations of changes in seasonal patterns and our fears for the future of our families and communities. We may discuss how climate change is forcing our communities to adapt to extreme weather and sea level rise. Or we may speak about how we are getting involved in the movement to fight the fossil fuel industry through community organizing or nonviolent protest.There is no "right" way to talk about climate change, as it is a vast topic that is increasingly touching every corner of our lives. CSP also facilitates educational workshops where students learn to speak about their own responses to climate change and interview guest speakers about theirs. In addition, some climate stories are featured in music and soundscape projects that allow audiences to witness the effects of climate change in a novel way.
