On a muggy and atmospheric day in May I head the unmistakable rumble of thunder. I quickly reached for my Omni mics and I put them out in the field. Thankfully the thunder continued to rumble and provided some wonderful deep and resonating sounds.

May Thunder Short - 2025 _A01_L

I spent many morning in October in my hide in the hopes of seeing a specific buck grunting. Unfortunately it didn't go as planned. However, I did make this recording of a fallow buck grunting and I'm very happy with how it turned out!

For this recording I used my clippy EM272 stereo pair from Micbooster. The mics were plugged into my Tascam FR-AV2. The microphones were low to the ground as I had them connected to a small tripod/ handle. Next year I will try recording from head height by clipping the mics to some tree branches to see if I get a louder recording. In this recording you can hear the grunts fade at times as the buck goes over a slight hill then eventually it comes into clear view of my microphones and the sound is much clearer. 

First Grunts October - 2025

This recording was taken at Ballinclamper beach in Dungarvan. I was out looking for a rare bird when I happened to notice these small birds called common ringed plover. Having observed them moving around on the beach I decided to put my audio recorder out and walk away for a bit. Thankfully the birds moved around my audio recorder and made some great noises. 

For this recording I used my matched stereo pair of Clippy EM272 microphones with the Tascam FR-AV2.
