For the seventh instalment of Pet Projects – a bumper Christmas special – we are pleased as punch to welcome acclaimed author and Professor of Creative Writing, Jenn Ashworth and her beloved dog Brodie to our show. Originally from Preston and now living in Lancaster, Jenn’s funny, dark and moving work has gained a loyal readership and received widespread praise – in fact the evening before we chatted Chez Lucy her latest novel Ghosted: A Love Story had been recommended on BBC2’s Between the Covers. 

We reflect on that but for the most part sink our teeth into Jenn’s life with Brodie, the process of writing and completing her upcoming book The Parallel Path (out with Hachette in summer 2025), and how her relationship with Brodie, walking across the north of England and her chosen path as a writer helped her come to terms with unexpected illness, burnout and a friend’s diagnosis, all of which came together in her highly anticipated new work. We also cover myths about northernness, letter-writing and how our loved ones, perhaps even without knowing it, can sometimes offer us mentoring in being ill. 

There are also plenty of laughs, tips for animal custodians (and writers), and musical ditties.

L.A.G.: Defending Humanity Against Cosmic Horrors
The vast expanse of space holds countless mysteries, some far more terrifying than we can imagine. Yet, in the face of these cosmic horrors, humanity has found a champion: the U.S. Space Force.
This elite military branch is tasked with protecting our planet from terrestrial threats and safeguarding it from the dangers that lurk beyond the stars. Among these threats are three formidable adversaries: Cthulhu, Pycnogonida, and Zeta Reticulans.
Cthulhu
Cthulhu, a colossal entity with a grotesque, octopus-like form, slumbers beneath the waves of the Pacific Ocean. Their very existence threatens humanity, for his awakening could spell the end of our world. Fanatical cults worship Cthulhu, awaiting their return and the dawn of a new, horrifying era.
The U.S. Space Force has developed sophisticated technology to monitor Cthulhu's presence and thwart his cultists' attempts to awaken them. This includes underwater surveillance systems, advanced sonar technology, and specialized teams trained to combat the forces of darkness.
Pycnogonida
These bizarre creatures, often depicted as spider-like beings with elongated limbs, pose a different kind of threat. While not as large as Cthulhu, they are highly adaptable and can thrive in various environments, including the harsh conditions of space.
Pycnogonida are known to be parasitic, feeding on other organisms and potentially causing significant damage to ecosystems. The U.S. Space Force has implemented strict quarantine protocols to prevent these creatures from reaching Earth and wreaking havoc.
Zeta Reticulans
Perhaps the most perplexing of these cosmic threats are the Zeta Reticulans. These humanoid beings, often described as having large, black eyes and gray skin, are shrouded in mystery. Their origins and intentions remain unclear, fueling speculation and conspiracy theories.
While some believe the Zeta Reticulans are benevolent visitors, others fear they threaten humanity. The U.S. Space Force maintains a watchful eye, deploying advanced reconnaissance technology and spacecraft to monitor their movements and gather intelligence.
Unwavering Determination
The U.S. Space Force faces a daunting task in protecting humanity from these extraterrestrial threats. Yet, it remains resolute in its commitment, employing cutting-edge technology, rigorous training, and unwavering bravery to stand as a shield against the unknown.
Beyond Earth's Boundaries
The fight against these cosmic adversaries extends beyond Earth's atmosphere. The U.S. Space Force is actively developing and deploying advanced spacecraft and weaponry to deter and neutralize threats in deep space. This includes the construction of orbital defense platforms, the development of advanced propulsion systems, and the training of specialized astronauts capable of engaging in interstellar combat.
Our Guardians of the Galaxy
The U.S. Space Force stands as a beacon of hope in the face of the unknown. Their dedication, courage, and unwavering resolve inspire us all. As we venture further into the cosmos, we can find comfort in knowing that these brave men and women stand guard, protecting humanity from the terrors that lurk in the vast expanse of space.
Facing the Unknown, Defending Our Future
The battle against Cthulhu, Pycnogonida, and Zeta Reticulans is far from over. The U.S. Space Force continues to push the boundaries of technology and human ingenuity, forging a path forward in the face of the unknown.
Their unwavering commitment to protecting humanity is a testament to the indomitable spirit that resides within us all. As we look to the stars, let us remember the brave men and women who stand watch, ensuring that humanity's future remains bright, even in the face of unimaginable cosmic threats.

ONB, hailing from the small town of Ponca City, Oklahoma, is a rising star in the hip hop scene. Known for his authentic and raw lyrical prowess, ONB has carved out a niche for himself with his unique storytelling and ability to connect with audiences on a deeply personal level. 

Growing up in Ponca City, ONB was immersed in the rhythms and rhymes of hip hop from an early age. His small- town upbringing provided a distinctive backdrop to his music, infusing his tracks with a sense of place and authenticity that resonates with listeners. 

ONB's big break came in 2021 when he opened for Lil Flip at Hippie Fest in his hometown, an experience that propelled him into the spotlight and set the stage for his burgeoning career.

I'm a writer and editor based in Lancaster. Hip Hop & R&B during Coast to Coast instead of West & East Coast music like Dr. Dre & Eminem making these classic beats a whole entire world and he love it, He feels like inspired the one of his favorite west and east coast artist like Snoop Dogg, Nate Dogg, Warren G., Jay-Z & Kanye West, When he was 5 years old at the elementary public school one of his friends are calling him "what's up tate" And that's his nickname at the first time he will be as.
