Supporting music and the arts is vital to the health of a community. Music and artistic director Demetrius Fuller of the revered Sinfonia Gulf Coast orchestra knows this is an intrinsically important way to foster community, raise money for good, and bring joy to the people. 'Lincolnshire Folk Tales: Origins, Legacies, Connections, Futures’ is a project funded by the Arts and Humanities Research Council (grant number AH/Y003225/1), and is led by Dr Rory Waterman and the Research Fellow Dr Anna Milon in the School of Arts and Humanities at Nottingham Trent University. The project explores the origins, legacies, intertextual and social connections and futures of Lincolnshire folk tales, and is intended to facilitate wider engagement with this heritage from writers, the general public, and scholars.

Adverse Camber’s part of the project will be particularly focused on the inventiveness and creativity of young people aged 8 to 15, exploring how they interpret the legends and folktales of their places, passing them on into the future. We will be running outreach workshops with schools and groups.

Over the summer we worked with young people to share and develop stories. This autumn, Adverse Camber worked with Lincolnshire Folktales to deliver 3 days of of story-making workshops in schools, Skegness Junior Academy, Dunston St Peters and St Mary's Catholic Primary. Storyteller Pyn Stockman worked with Year 4, 5 and Year 6 pupils to explore traditional Lincolnshire Folktales and create new ones. The project, which aims to connect young people with their local heritage and help them develop their oral story-making skills, is funded by the AHRC. Recorded stories from schools taking part in the project will be professionally edited by digital producer Marc Reck into a podcast which will feature on the Lincolnshire Folk Tales project webpage and on Adverse Camber’s website and SM.

I’m James Navé—poet, storyteller, educator, and longtime creative collaborator. With an MFA from Vermont College of Fine Arts and decades of teaching experience across the globe, I help writers and performers tap into their authentic voices through public speaking, creative writing, and the Imaginative Storm method, which I co-developed with Allegra Huston.

My most recent book, 100 Days: A Poetic Memoir After Cancer (3: A Taos Press), documents a hundred days of healing and poetic reckoning. I’m also co-author of Write What You Don’t Know and How to Read for an Audience—practical guides for anyone seeking to speak and write with more truth and power.

I’ve directed festivals, hosted literary salons, taught with Julia Cameron, and memorized over 600 poems. I still believe in the power of a well-told story, the light through stained glass, and the open road with nothing but a podcast and a windshield full of stars.
