Zoom’s AI avatars to replace people in meetings? 
In a bold move, Zoom announced during its annual developer conference that it's developing AI-generated avatars that can serve as substitutes for people in meetings. Users will record a video of themselves, which the AI will then transform into a digital clone that mimics their appearance and voice. These avatars, available early next year, aim to make team communications smoother by facilitating asynchronous updates. However, the technology raises concerns about potential misuse, such as deepfakes. Zoom reassured users that safeguards will be implemented, but other AI companies have stricter measures in place to protect user consent.

Faster parcel delivery with Amazon’s AI
Amazon is rolling out its new Vision-Assisted Package Retrieval system, or VAPR for short, to expedite package delivery times by thirty percent! This system uses computer vision technology to identify delivery packages in the back of trucks. When the delivery vehicle arrives at a location, VAPR will highlight the right packages with a green light while marking others with a red cross. Currently, Amazon plans to install this system in one thousand electric vans by early twenty twenty-five.

More global offices for OpenAI
In a strategic move for international expansion, OpenAI will open new offices in Singapore, Paris, and Brussels. The Paris office aims to tap into the rich pool of AI talent in the region, while Brussels offers a unique vantage point as a leader in AI regulation. With the new Singapore office, OpenAI is looking to enhance its presence in Asia, where user engagement with models like ChatGPT is remarkably high.

JustEat's ads get smarter
JustEat, the globally renowned online food delivery service, is partnering with the AI company Rokt to enhance their post-order advertisements. Rokt’s technology will allow JustEat to deliver personalized ads to its eighty-two million customers while they are engaging with their orders. This strategy aims to provide users with relevant shopping experiences, which could increase conversion rates significantly.

Vincent Gaudillière est spécialiste en vision par ordinateur et nouveau Maître de Conférences de l’Université de Lorraine. Il enseigne à la Faculté des Sciences et Technologies et mène ses travaux de recherche au Loria, dans l’équipe Tangram depuis septembre 2024.

Il s’intéresse au problème de l’identification automatique du point de vue d’une caméra à partir des éléments présents dans une image. Dans ses travaux actuels, il intègre l’utilisation de grands modèles vision-langage pour soumettre les images à des analyses multimodales. Celles-ci, combinées éventuellement à des analyses purement visuelles, lui permettent d’envisager une étude des images plus précise et efficace, notamment lorsqu’il s’agit d’environnements complexes et inconnus. 

Originaire de Dijon, son parcours professionnel l’a fait passer par Grenoble, Lausanne, Nancy et le Luxembourg, avant de retourner à Nancy, en tant que membre permanent du Loria.
