Boèce - La Consolation de philosophie

This passage provides the testimony of Simeon and Anna as Jesus is brought to the temple by Mary & Joseph. Jesus, a light for revelation to the Gentiles and for glory to God's people Israel, would bring consolation for those who receive Him and and division because of those who reject Him. /앨범소개

모든 것에는 무너진 자리에 비로소 드러나는 풍경을 간직하고 있다. 절망에 이름을 붙이고 가만히 들여다볼 때, 그것은 공허한 파멸이 아닌 하나의 세계가 된다. 사람은 결여를 끌어안고, 폐허 위에서 노래하며, 마침내 절망을 아름답다고 명명하게 된다. 그 순간 노래는 처연한 인간 역학의 증거로써 완성되었다.

이 세계는 유약한 영혼을 변수 삼아 무수한 파동을 송신하고, 그 영혼은 모든 소음을 온몸으로 수신하며 자신의 좌표를 탐색한다. 타인의 중력에 이끌려 궤도를 이탈하고, 다시 타인의 온기를 향해 필사적으로 궤도를 수정하는 운동. 그 끝없는 진동과 간섭 속에서 마모된 맨살의 기록이며, 가장 복잡한 미로 속에서 가장 단순한 해답을 찾는 과정의 증명이다.

이 글의 흐름을 잠시 멈추고, 제 이야기를 해볼까 합니다.
저는 오랫동안 제 삶이 통제할 수 없는 사건들로부터 벗어나지 못하고 있다고 느꼈습니다. 의도만으로 삶을 정의할 수 있다면 얼마나 좋을까요. 대답은 대부분 지독한 도돌이표 같았어요. 계속 이어지는 거죠. 이 앨범의 네 번째 곡까지는 그 굴레 안에서 바라본 풍경입니다.

그래서 마지막 곡 앞에서는 침묵을 두었습니다. 그 정적은 숨 막히는 궤도의 종말의 선언입니다. 막을 수 없는 것들을 받아들이고, 정위를 따라 도착한 것들을 수용하기로 했습니다. 당신이 있으니까 괜찮을 것 같았어요. 그렇게 선언하고 다음날 아침은 놀랍게도 별 차이 없었지만요.

한 생애는 오르내림을 반복하는 거대한 굴렁쇠와 같다. 앨범의 서사는 이 굴레의 영원한 도돌이표를 따른다. 서두를 여는 숲은, 겪어내야만 하는 수많은 반향 속에서도 결국 각자의 내면에 있는 가장 순수한 초록을 들여다보게 될 것이라는 암시를 던진다. 현실에 속해 있으면서도 순수를 좇는 삶의 모습처럼, 숲과 여름밤은 행복과 불행이 교차하는 왕복 운동 그 자체를 보여주는 영혼의 초상이다. 그 풍경은 초저녁의 빛에서, 어두운 밤의 무한으로 유기적으로 이어진다.

그러나 이 끝없는 궤도는 마지막 곡에 이르러서야 균열을 맞이한다. 새벽은 굴레의 안에서 겪는 아침이 아니라, 굴레의 밖으로 걸어 나와 마침내 나를 지켜보던 너를 마주하는 첫 순간이다. 오직 이 순간에 이르러서야, 반복되던 모든 고통과 위로는 비로소 너라는 단 하나의 좌표를 향한 필연이었음을 고백하며 이 길고 어두운 밤을 끝낸다.

This was a bit of a personal struggle. As a beginner cellist (1.5 years into playing) I decided to push the boundaries and perform the cello part of my piece myself. After many takes, a bit of post-processing and a lot of self-doubt this is the final result.
It‘s probably the most vulnerable piece of music I‘ve ever released and it was quite hard to let it go. So may it serve you well as consolation in times you need it and be shared among those who might need it.

As did the countless hours of exposure to the music of Howard Shore, Hans Zimmer and Michael Kamen. To put it briefly: I'm a film music nerd and you can definitely hear that in my own music.
