Tom Jenkins author of "The Next Run A UC Berkeley Student's Rise To Major 60s Pot Smuggler". Tom starts by smuggling pot hidden in cars, graduates to planes, resorts to waking sacks through the Rio Grande, and ultimately finds himself heading the Colombian end of an operation with a twin-engine cargo plane dropping bales to waiting speedboats off the coast of Florida. At the same time, his Mexican contacts are sending him tons at a time transported in semis past a bribed customs official. Tom's next move stuns the smuggling world.

The humble Contact List in our phone is a goldmine of data. Each contact is filled with the personal information like names, numbers, email addresses, home addresses, birthdays, work details and social media information. It’s the kind of information that data brokers salivate over because it allows unprecedented insight into consumer behavior, political leanings, and even potential vulnerabilities that could be exploited. The worst thing is, it's not even your information that's being taken -- When we don't protect our contacts list, it's the information that OTHERS have entrusted to us that we're sharing. 

In this video I talk about Contact Lists, why you might not want to store them in your phone or share them with other apps on your device, and finally I’ll talk about more private ways to store them.

I recently saw some shared/liked content by certain individuals in the UX community on my feed. While I try to abstain from direct politics on my page, I remove people whose values clearly don't align with mine. I just happened to see what the algorithm decided to show me and I took action, but only after seeing that they were in the UX space and had dozens of shared/mutual connections with me. I advise people comb through their own lists of contacts and remove anyone who is blatantly suspect with this stuff because you never know. And personally, I don't want to be connected with anyone who shared obscene content or misinformation. I didn't judge any of those mutual connections because it's kind of easy to suspect how we all connected with this person, which is why people need to get more active in finding and removing these people.
