Track one from the 'Quartet' CD EP that contains four original piano solos by Hugh O'Shea. First published by banshee-music in 2008. After selling out it was re-released in 2012. A beautiful, tender piece. Very chromatic. Fast and passionate towards the end then a quiet, tranquil finish.

This work was adjudicated by Professor Stuart Greenbaum from Melbourne University in the composition section (solo instrument) of the Boroondara Eisteddfod in 1991 and won third prize.

It was broadcast on Radio France Culture in 2018, right after Ravel's wonderful Vocalise - Etude en Forme de Habenera.

Darkest Green is an original piano composition from my project Butterflies, which has nothing to do with their aesthetics but rather their symbolism - exploring themes of transformation, emergence, inner metamorphosis.

This piece explores the hidden beauty of change, and the fragile power of transcendence, as it moves through shadows and feelings of uncertainty, with fluttering textures and expansive sweeps that reflect the tension between darkness and the fertile possibility of becoming.

Darkest Green

For Phil, traditional classical piano training was something of a straitjacket. He rebelled from a very young age by teaching himself to improvise and play by ear. Fundamentally gentle by nature - he’s a vegan and life-long meditator - the competitive world of classical piano seemed brutal. Phil plays music simply for the love of it and nothing else matters to him. He’s not interested in definitive interpretations or who-can-play-the-fastest performances: what Phil offers is real musical sense, through delivering rhythm and groove, melody and harmony with depth, clarity and unconventional intelligibility.

Phil plays in a refreshingly unpretentious and accessible way, telling musical stories with vivid, straightforward passion. Being a Yorkshireman, he says it how it is, and music for him is profound solace, catharsis and joy: so this is what he offers. Being extraordinarily fluent in the language of music on the keys, he loves to improvise freely, allowing the music to pour forth spontaneously, from a place of deep body-and-soul consciousness. And he aims to make the music of Mozart, Chopin, Rachmaninov, and every piece he plays, come from this place of real transformation and healing.

     My name is Omar Octavio Gaytán-Procel, born in México City and currently living in Copenhagen, Denmark. Music and Composition especially have played a very significant role in my life for the past 40 years or so.

    With my production I try to portray the human drama of our times, all of that fragmented reality that appears in front of us every day and that we, the composers, painters, writers use to express our vision of ourselves and the creation around us. My production consist in more than 1000 pieces to the date ( February 2024 ) and is divided in multiple textures and formats. It started years ago with acoustic music and with time and new technology it developed into electro-acoustic music and later into pure electronic.

    Here on my SoundCloud you will find some examples of the different musical ideas that I have been involved with from the mid-nineties to this date. This ideas range from Solo pieces, Chamber Music, Orchestral Music to pure Electronics.

In the heart of every note MaCha plays and sings, resides a profound story of self-discovery, resilience, and the therapeutic power of music. 

From an early age, the piano became MaCha's most trusted confidant. Little did she know that this instrument would lead her towards an uncharted path of self-expression and healing. She also always loved singing, but it remainded in the shadows, untrained until only a few years ago - when the pain of a breakup became the catalyst for her debut as a singer and composer. The piano transformed into a storyteller of her personal journey. Her voice became an extension of her piano, adding new dimensions to her music and allowing her to weave intricate narratives of heartache, hope, and transformation. 

MaCha's music is in an intertwined symphony of all her lived experiences. Every emotion she encounters finds its place in her music, an eternal imprint of her life on earth. It's about turning life's trials and triumphs into harmonious compositions that invite listeners to immerse themselves in the ebb and flow of her story - reminding us that vulnerability is a strength, and the truest art emerges from the depths of the human experience. 

Through the highs and lows, the heartaches and the hopes, MaCha's journey is a testament to the transformation power of embracing all the we are and channeling it into something meaningful.

I've come to the piano relatively late in life. I'm teaching myself and, as yet, am far from professional level. However, I can't help making stuff up - maybe call it composing - and so am putting my "compositions" on here in the hope that, in spite of their limitations and flaws, some of the pleasure I get from them manages to communicate to you the listener. Initially, most of what I put on SoundCloud was exploring possible music for moving image contexts. Increasingly, I am considering music simply for its own sake. I am also collaborating with artist, Simon Morley who lives near the DMZ between north and South Korea, hence our band name: DMZ, https://soundcloud.com/utopiapress Simon does electronics and I contribute piano.

For some 40 years I have created exhibitions encompassing drawing, installation, photography, performance, video, film and book publishing. I have exhibited widely in Ireland, UK, Europe, Canada, USA and India. Major exhibitions of his work have taken place at the Arnolfini Gallery, Bristol (1997), Chisenhale Gallery, London (1998) and in Belfast (1996, 2005). I have received awards, residencies and commissions from the Canada Council, British Council, British Film Institute, Arts Council England and the Royal Festival Hall, London. In 2007 I published, No-one’s Not From Everywhere, a two hundred page text and image book, funded by Arts Council England. In 2012 the John Hansard Gallery published, Which is The: 49 Views. In 2017 I completed his first feature length film, As Sure as The Rain, in collaboration with Helen Blejerman. Hugh O'Shea is a self-taught award winning composer from Melbourne, Australia. He first started composing as a student at Melbourne Polytechnic.

He composed music for campus theatre productions while studying at La Trobe University. He was awarded a double major in Music and a third major in Political Science in 2003. He completed post graduate studies in Education in 2007.

In April 2006 his second commissioned work, Laudate Dominum, (organ, soprano choir and violin) was included as part of the Mercy Feast for around 5000 parishioners in Melbourne’s famous St. Patrick's Cathedral.

Quartet, a CD EP of four piano solos was released in 2008. After selling out, Quartet was re-released in 2012.
