Serlachius-museoiden johtaja Pauli Sivonen tutustui brittitaiteilija Keith Tysonin taiteeseen ensimmäisen kerran vieraillessaan Lontoossa vuonna 2019. Hän käsittelee taiteilijaa ja tämän taidetta podcastissaan Keith Tyson – Kehittyvä prospektiivi.

Keith Tyson – Kehittyvä prospektiivi (FI)

Pauli Sivonen, the director of the Serlachius Museums, was first introduced to the art of British artist Keith Tyson during his visit to London in 2019. He discusses the artist and his work in his podcast Keith Tyson – Prospective in Progress.

Keith Tyson studied mechanical engineering before his career as an artist, and he has been interested in programming since childhood. He has always been fascinated by things that lie at the intersection of art, technology, and science. He is inspired by how things are connected and how one thing leads to another.

Keith Tyson’s exhibition Universal Symphony is on show at Serlachius from May 24 to October 26, 2025. The podcast serves as a foreword written by Pauli Sivonen for the exhibition publication about the artist and his work.

Protokollen er skabt til Museet for Samtidskunst, og vi har sat os ned til en snak med Apparatus 22 og museumsdirektør Christian Skovbjerg Jensen for at blive klogere på dens indhold og anvendelse.

Like the Romantic notion that vertebrate evolution is recapitulated in the human fetus, this work imagines Ratheal’s materialist experience as a transmogrification of his ancestors’ religious worldviews. He sees religious European paintings as expressions of a long history of negotiating with unknowable, nonhuman otherness. He tries to make visible the alien immediateness he perceives in them—to give them space to breathe and express themselves anew.

In his recent works, the content referenced from these paintings drip and burst onto the wall. The works are also a register of seismic seizures of a collective unconscious, marking the violent destabilization of identity that is disconnected from being and cannot admit difference. They mark the inability of the descendants of Europeans to find a new expression for the memory embedded in their inherited images, who seek to make the world an image of hell, so that it can, at least, be recognized.

The South London Gallery has an international reputation for its programme of contemporary art exhibitions and live art events, with integrated education projects for children, young people and adults. Five exhibitions each year profile the work of established international figures such as Tom Friedman, Mark Dion, Rivane Neuenschwander, Alfredo Jaar and Superflex; as well as that by younger and mid-career British artists such as Oscar Murillo, Eva Rothschild and Ryan Gander. Group shows bring together works by established and lesser known British and international artists. The gallery’s live art and film programme has included presentations by Rachel Gomme, Nathaniel Mellors, Gail Pickering, OMSK and Gisele Vienne, and occasional large scale off-site projects have included those by On Kawara in Trafalgar Square in 2004, and Chris Burden at Chelsea College of Art Parade Ground in 2006.

Exhibitions are free, as well as many of the SLG’s events.
