From the Magazine — Forth!The earwicker downs that go up and around be the edge of the fifteen acres,
Where Mary Moore with sweet allure and grace took on all takers;
She had a room up near the Coombe but liked the starry sky,
When she went gallivantin’ with every willin’ boy.

An’ whether they be a solgier or whether they be at sea,
It was all the same to Mary Moore as long as they had the fee,
She gave no change and could rearrange a face if it was needed,
There was many a man as big as Dan who often with her pleaded!

Mary’s sister Molly didn’t like the great outdoors,
She has a flat in Pimlico with carpets on the floors;
And a big brass bed with a cross at the head, and a pot beneath to pee;
And a vanity box on the chiffonier where clients left their fee.

And many a scarlet jacket lost its shine with Mary Moore;
For some of her friends were Magazine men who let her in the door.
They had all the ammunition and with her they could make free,
But for working indoors she levelled the scores when Mary raised her fee.

Sunday was their day of rest, when they often took the tram
Out as far as Sarah Bridge with their picnic — bread and ham.
They walked up and around the earwicker downs just like the quality
And after a while and many’s the mile they went home to have their tea. 

These two fair daughters of Dublin, renowned for their looks and wares,
Knew many a gent in Dublin town, their secrets and affairs.
And to every famous soirée they had a sure entrée
But to handle the goods of these rose buds, the willing had to pay.

But like any other rose bud, they rose in the world be stealth.
Having been the prize of those eager eyes — and very often felt.
They left their auld haunts, they had no wants, when they joined the quality,
To seek an auld goose, who was on the loose — then ladies they would be.

And now in a horse and carriage, Mary drives around the fort
And the Magazine men who see her then, they give a curt retort.
There’s Mary Moore, of that I’m sure, who broke me bloody heart,
Now pure as the snow, but we all know where Mary got the start.

And Molly drives through Pimlico and waves just like the queen.
She’s a dog at her feet and one on the seat and an auld goose in between.
More money than sense, he makes recompense for her favours freely given,
Two daughters of Dublin, with nothing troubling’, give thanks for the life they’re living’!
