Linares (47-8, 29 KOs) was once an exceptional world champion. The Venezuelan technician captured titles at featherweight, super featherweight, and lightweight, defeating the likes of Oscar Larios, Rocky Juarez, Kevin Mitchell, and Anthony Crolla along the way. This will be his first fight in 10 months.

"I always wanted to go back to the UK to make another amazing fight with the best 135lbs or 140lbs fighter," said Linares. "The best option was Jack Catterall. The motivation that I have right now is the same as it was seven or eight years ago. This is the moment. This is the most important fight."

Catterall vs. Linares is on October 21. The main card begins around 7 p.m. local time, or 2 p.m. ET. Both fighters should make their way to the ring around 10:15 p.m. local time, or 5:15 p.m. ET, depending on how long the undercard fights last.

The rematch with Taylor failed to materialize after several postponements and months of fraught negotiations. While Taylor went on to lose to American star Teofimo Lopez, Catterall remained on the shelf for over a year until earning a lopsided win over Australia-based Irishman Darragh Foley in Manchester in May.

Catterall turned pro in 2012. "'El Gato'" and won the  British super lightweight belt in 2017. The Lancashire-born fighter lost to Taylor despite the champion going down in the eighth and being deducted a point (Catterall also lost a point in the fight). A contentious result, the rematch failed to transpire and Catteral has moved on.

“It is an honor to share a ring with Jorge Linares," Catterall said via ESPN. "I've watched him come over to the U.K. on three occasions and win three times. He is a legend of the game, and this is a must-win fight for both of us for very different reasons. There is talk of a huge fight for me after this, but it'll count for nothing if I take my eye off the ball, which I can't afford to do at this stage of my career."

"I want to test myself and see how good I can be in the sport of boxing," Catterall said. "I’m excited. I’ve seen Linares and his training videos – he seems very motivated and that excites me, it makes me go to the gym and work extra hard."

To widespread outrage and disbelief, Taylor received a split-decision victory, and a devastated Catterall stormed out of the ring in disgust following the announcement of the scorecards.

In their first fight, he was dominating until the sudden finish in the third round. If he can clean things up and avoid taking big damage, one has to figure he'll even things up at 1-1. Given how their first fight went, fans can expect a finish here.

After considering the both the fighters' stats and their performance patterns, the winning odds is calculated to be at 92-8 in favor of Tommy Fury. Here is the prediction for KSI vs Fury.

Fury, 35, has already signed to fight Usyk, 36, after his spectacle showdown and the Ukrainian is not sweating ahead of the weekend's result.

He told his YouTube channel: “Yes, Ngannou is a UFC champion, I’m not disputing it. But UFC isn’t boxing.

"I’m 100 per cent sure that Tyson Fury will be victorious. If Ngannou relatively has a puncher’s chance, and if he hypothetically happens to send Fury tumbling to the canvas, I’ll concede talking gibberish." 

Ngannou laughed off Fury’s breakdown of how the fight will play out, promising he believes anything is possible in Sunday’s fight.

“Wow, that looks like a script from a movie,” Ngannou said. “But as you said earlier, everybody has a plan until they get punched in the face.”

Fight fans have long argued over what would happen when an elite boxer -- the gold standard of prizefighting for much of our culture's history -- was put in the ring with a top-shelf wrestler, karate master, mixed martial artist or someone else who doesn't abide by Marquess of Queensberry rules.

Though he must resist complacency, Catterall should win comfortably on Saturday night and look to advance to bigger and better fights in 2024 – against Taylor, Lopez, or the winner of the upcoming WBC title fight between Haney and Regis Prograis.

Catterall is almost sure to be too young, too big, and too strong for Linares and those facts are reflected in the odds. You should never write off quality – and Linares was a terrific fighter – but the Venezuelan has not been active and his best days are far behind him.

Linares is now 38 years old and has lost three fights in a row. He’s also moving back up from the 135 lb lightweight division to the 140 lb junior welterweight ranks. Catterall arguably beat Josh Taylor a couple of years ago but hasn’t done himself any favours with inactivity as this is just his second fight since then.

The other fights on the card feature prospects on the rise. McGrail and Hatton are near certainties to prevail in their fights, but Fiaz could find himself tested if Bellotti is able to turn back the clock. Still, I would expect Fiaz to box his way to a decision.

Linares, for his part, stressed his determination to continue competing at the highest level of the sport: “This is an amazing dream for me. I always wanted to go back to the UK to make another amazing fight with the best 135lbs or 140lbs fighter. The best option was Jack Catterall.

Catterall needs to prove the performance against Taylor wasn’t a fluke and can’t afford a loss to the aging and declining Linares. Don’t count Linares out due to his experience and power but at this point of their careers I’m expecting Catterall to come out on top.

The 38-year-old Linares was defending the WBA Lightweight Title for the fourth time when he ran into Vasyl Lomachenko in May, 2018 and although he decked Lomachenko in the sixth round he was stopped in the 10th.

The motivation that I have right now is the same as it was seven or eight years ago. This is the moment. This is the most important fight. I want to make an amazing show for the people to enjoy and to enjoy myself. We’re going to make a beautiful fight. This is the most difficult fight of my life. I need to win this fight.”

He won the belt in 2016 and also defended it against Anthony Crolla twice by unanimous decisions, stopped Darleys Perez in the ninth round, edged Luke Campbell by split decision and then downed Mercito Gesta by unanimous decision.

It will be difficult to arrest that slide here. I expect Linares to have some moments early but as the fight progresses, it becomes more one-sided and Catterall can get a second half stoppage.

After losing to Lomachenko he stopped Abner Cotto in the third round four months later. However, his hot streak ended in January, 2018 when Pablo Cesar Cano stopped him in the first round.

Most believed he had done enough but he lost a highly contentious 12-round split decision. When the rematch never came to pass, the 30-year-old craftsman returned and beat Darragh Foley (UD 10).

Rocha captured the vacant WBC Continental Americas Welterweight Crown in March, 2018 with a first-round stoppage of Miguel Perez and successfully defended it against Shoki Sakai, Berlin Abreu, Roberto Valenzuela Jr and Brad Soloman while stopping Abreu in the eighth round and Valenzuela after five.

“That’s what we’re going to find out. The WBO contention is coming up soon, and so Crawford will make up his mind, and we’ll take it from there,” said De La Hoya about Rocha’s next move to challenge for the WBO welterweight title if he comes out victorious against Santillan.

Rocha is the less experienced professional fighter, having had 7 less fights, and made his debut in 2016, 3 year and 9 months later than Santillan, whose first professional fight was in 2012. He has fought 26 less professional rounds, 134 to Santillan's 160.

Alexis Rocha goes into the fight ranked number 12 by the WBA, 10 by the WBC, 1 by the WBO, 10 by the IBF and 5 by the RING at welterweight.

Also, on the undercard will be John ‘Scrappy’ Ramirez's and Ronal Batista's fight for the WBA World Super Flyweight championship, Joseph ‘Jo Jo’ Diaz's and Richard Medina's contest and Arely Mucino's and Gabriela Fundora's bout.

Rocha, 26, could in theory force a mandatory shot at some point, but we know that Crawford and Errol Spence Jr will rematch, and we also know that Crawford could leave the welterweight division behind without ever fighting at 147 again.

On that end, taking a fight with Santillan (31-0, 16 KO) is quite respectable, because in theory Rocha could take something easier — or Golden Boy could book something easier — and just “stay busy” until a potential vacant title fight.

The 31-year-old Santillan has been fighting on Top Rank cards, and we’ve noted many times that he’s been handled pretty carefully given his age and all that. For him, this is a chance to solidify himself as a real second-level contender at 147.
