I decided to finally complete and release my long-time work-in-progress "Cyberpunk 2020 TTRPG original canonical lyrics" version of Chippin' In, a song performed by rebel rockerboy Johnny Silverhand in 2013 outside the front doors of Arasaka Tower in order to start a riot that got him and his crew inside the building to rescue Alt Cunningham, as seen in the Cyberpunk 2020 Core Rulebook Adventure "Never Fade Away," which was (loosely) adapted for the video game Cyberpunk 2077, albeit utilizing the song "Archangel" in place of Chippin' In. This song was also included in one of Johnny's many solo albums: "A Cool Metal Fire" (2013), and according to Cyberpunk 2077, it also apparently received a Kerry Eurodyne Cover Version using mostly similar lyrics (the version Johnny interrupts on-stage in the video game) and a "Samurai" song of the same name with even more heavily derivative lyrics and a completely different instrumental which can't really even be considered a "cover" of the same song at all (Refused's version from the video game). This version is my attempt at combining the instrumental of the 2018 Gameplay Demo/Kerry Eurodyne Cover with the original lyrics from the Cyberpunk 2020 and Cyberpunk V3.0 TTRPGs, and the angelic singing voice of one Keanu Reeves/Johnny Silverhand himself. This version is also heavily inspired by DeepBasin's cover "Chippin In, Johnny Silverhand cover Cyberpunk 2077", which at the time was the closest to the TTRPG version of the song available (other than whatever Mike Pondsmith's supposed performance of the song for his own RPG group was like...), but now I believe I have created the most accurate TTRPG-inspired cover of Chippin' In to ever exist. My version also uses an approximation of extended lyrics inspired by the lyrics from both DeepBasin's version and the two versions of the song from 2077, with my own creative songwriting twist in an attempt to make it all fit with the style of the lyrics provided in the TTRPG. How did I make this song you ask? Using the instrumental for Kerry's version of Chippin' In along with my own rendition of the full lyrics, I sang and recorded the entire song myself in my own voice doing my best possible impression of Keanu Reeves' voice and accent(?), and once the time was right and the technology was available to me, I utilized the power of A.I. (but like, the generative learning kind, not the Blackwall/Mikoshi kind) to isolate my singing and revoice it to sound like Johnny Silverhand, then added it back into the Kerry instrumental. Then I gave the whole thing a little bit of reverb to make it sound more like an on-stage performance. Aaaaand I made a pretty killer visual for the song using the TTRPG "A Cool Metal Fire" advertisement clipping. The irony is not lost on me that I used A.I. to bring the voice of anti-corpo activist/terrorist Johnny Silverhand to life for my own purposes, and while I would be thrilled to have a civil debate with anyone in the comments regarding the applications of this technology, for the sake of this video/song cover, I do not claim to own the voice of Keanu Reeves/Johnny Silverhand, nor the instrumental for Kerry Eurodyne's/Damian Ukeje's Chippin' In, nor the original TTRPG song lyrics. That being said, in my mind, this is what the 2077 version of Chippin' In should've sounded like, which should have first been witnessed in the game during Johnny's assault on Arasaka Tower (as much as I like Archangel regardless). I'd consider this video somewhere in the realm of "fanart," but a lot of time/effort/technological magic went into bringing my fantasy of a "TTRPG-accurate version of Chippin' In sung by Keanu Reeves" to life, and I'll defend it like it was my own flesh and blood child. It's not perfect, but if CDPR and Keanu want to make a better version themselves then I'd love to see it (Seriously, please!). With that being said, please enjoy the finished "Jaebii" version of Chippin' In!
