PREMIERE: Cendryma - Function (Original Mix) [Cydana Sounds]

Welcome to the February 2024 episode of ZZGO Radio!  I can barely believe it's been 50 episodes already, but here we are...

February has been a crazy busy month for me starting with our residency at Maeve in San Antonio.  The crowds get bigger and bigger every month, so it's great to be able to play a small role as Zach, Clint, and the rest of the Maeve team really get to spread their wings!  Exciting times.

In other exciting times, my burning man camp Cosmic Creatures hosted a super cool overnight camping event called Tree Burn in mid-Feburary.  One of our members has a tradition of burning discarded Christmas trees in a huge bonfire, so we amped it up and turned it into a fundraiser for a new art piece I'm working on for the camp. We ended up burning over 500 Christmas trees in a huge pile complete with fire spinners and lasers.  Additionally I set up our LED towers and our sound system on the top of a double decker London bus parked on the property, and we had a blast and went past 4 am despite the looming rain.  Definitely a fun weekend, so hopefully we'll do a repeat next year.

U.S.-based label Cydana Sounds returns to the fold, in a major re-launch for the small creative project of Oregon artist Cendryma; with the release "Connecting Dots / Minicube."

Written by Russian artist Dmitry Medvedev aka Dimas Mixon and American rising star Cendryma, "Connecting Dots / Minicube" is a glorious two tracker, featuring smooth synths, warm melodies and oodles of groove. Opening proceeding is "Connecting Dots," a melodic romp through the stylings of Dimas Mixon, while the rumbling, undulating bassline is the familiar characteristic of Cendryma's productions.

"Minicube" is a more subdued affair, preferring to lay back on the bassline while the high end percussion drives forward the track. The breakdown is a dark, filtered cascade that leads into a subtle, but powerful drop.

Joining forces for the debut release of the re-launched Cydana Sounds, this is Dimas Mixon & Cendryma with "Connecting Dots / Minicube."

Yin and Yang (n.) - the concept of duality forming a whole. A fundamental premise in Chinese philosophy now transposed to the electronic dance industry through the creation of Proton "Editions". Through encyclopaedic knowledge of the 4,000+ strong Proton roster of labels Tripp Baronner has envisioned a new concept of the principle of seemingly polar opposites, coming together as interconnected and independent universal forces - life and death, the dark and the light: one complete entity. 

From a passion for underground progressive house at opposite ends of the audio spectrum - the deep, shadowy atmospheres to the blissful, shimmering melodies, "Yin" and "Yang" were born in an effort to represent this phenomenon in musical form. Each release will provide a single remix of an existing Proton roster track for two inextricably linked labels in the form of a light (Yang) and dark (Yin) edition. Released on the same day, a strong contrast in styles will thus serve to complement each other and nourish the whole.
