Gezichtsloze seks is een historisch onderdeel van een specifieke, seksuele subcultuur. Toen homoseksualiteit meer open beleefd kon worden, gingen gay bars en clubs deze praktijk faciliteren met donkere ruimtes waar bezoekers anonieme seks kunnen hebben. Zulke plekken bestonden in Amsterdam ooit in overvloed, tegenwoordig zijn ze schaars. In deze aflevering verwonderen de Mediadoctoren zich over darkrooms. Dat doen we met ondernemer en activist Richard Keldoulis, ook bekend als Jennifer Hopelezz. Hij is mede-oprichter van (onze sponsor) Club Church en Sauna NZ, en eigenaar van café Free Willie.  

We praten onder andere over de mate van obscuriteit en over regelgeving, maar ook over de romantiek van de darkroom. Uiteraard gaan we in op de concurrentie van apps. Wat is de culturele betekenis van darkrooms voor een stad als Amsterdam?

Onder Mediadoctoren is een tweewekelijkse podcast waarin inhoudelijke en wetenschappelijk-geïnformeerde discussies worden gevoerd over de media. Twee mediawetenschappers – Vincent Crone en Linda Duits – bevragen iedere uitzending een mediakwestie. Ze laten daarbij andere experts, programmamakers of wetenschappers aan het woord en kijken welke antwoorden er bestaan op de centrale vraag.
