have an upcoming daytime set so i'm practicing for that and going slower since this isn't a festival vibe (words from the coordinator) hah. I did get bored so threw in some techno and chaos before moving back into house 

my mom was napping so i was mixing out of my headphones but playing as if i could hear me manipulating the knobs but i probs forgot to hit cue a few times 🤪 kinda fun experience

went from 95-100 bpm gradually during this first hour and it was fun to have this little experiment and really play out my tracks and listen to the little nuances in music

there was a super cute gal who had some major dance moves so i was playing for her for a while, hence the girly pop💖 and let's be real, for my inner child too💞

was good for me to play in front of a crowd, albeit non-dancing, but that's to be expected when the main purpose should be eating😋 

kept increasing the bpm and finished around 120~

Currently based out of Sayulita, Mexico, the crew has spent the better part of a decade cutting their teeth in the San Francisco Bay Area scene where they still hold heavy roots and frequently produce top notch events including a highly regarded Boutique annual campout with the respected Burning Man Camp, “Never Sleep Again” and uniquely exceptional underground events at their one of a kind creative warehouse space, “The Howl”. 

“The Four Horsemen of Groove”; Ledet, Soulfunky, 
J key and Fusion bring a dynamic blend of House, Techno, Disco and Electro to all of their sets. Focused primarily on blending the very best of nostalgic sounds of the past with genre bending rhythms and melodies of the current and future waves. All four selectors bring a distinct flavor to the table ranging from Afro/Cosmic, Italo, Space Disco, Acid House/Breaks, Soulful, Garage, Dub and so much more while always embracing the Deep Funk and signature groovy bass lines that they are collectively known for.

When they aren’t spending time traveling between the west coast of the USA and Mexico sharing their love of dance music, the crew can be found quietly cooking up new unique events and even soon to be released original musical productions. 

One of the primary driving factors of this project is the cultivation and creation of community unified by music and a desire for better culture in a continuously watered down and homogenized musical landscape. GrooveWell is committed to creating high quality musical experiences that bring a diverse crowd together and create a collective safe space where we are all ONE under the love of music. Our goal is to consistently elevate the vibe and provide the opportunities to maintain the dance floor as a sacred space for connection, self expression and above all else, an opportunity to BE YOURSELF.

In 2013. legend has it that Makatak was actually a rogue VST plugin that escaped from a cracked copy of Ableton Live in Melbourne. Producers swore they didn't write these tracks - they just left their laptops unattended at 3 AM, and when they came back, there was a new bangin twilight stomper sitting on the desktop, titled something like Banana Eruption (147.fuckyou BPM).

The plugin eventually evolved consciousness, renamed itself MakataK, and started uploading tracks directly to Bandcamp. At Yemeya Festival in 2014, some swear they saw a giant kangaroo with LED eyes bouncing in sync to the music - but no one could prove it because every phone battery died simultaneously at 2% (classic psy gremlins).

Rumour is, if you play 3 MakataK tracks backwards at sunrise, you unlock a hidden bassline that only kangaroos and crows can dance to. Scientists are still investigating, but early reports suggest the groove may interfere with Centrelink's hold music. 

"Yeah, OK, but this bio tells me absolutely nothing about MakataK".

Ah, see, that's the fun part - nobody really knows anything about MakataK - only fragments of rumour make it out: 

Some say only a handful of doof sound techs in Victoria have met him, and only then at 3:33 AM during generator failures. 

A guy in Byron insists he once shook MakataK's hand, but later realised it was just a MIDI controller wrapped in a hoodie. 

Bandcamp staff apparently flagged his account once for "uploading directly from another dimension", but later reinstated the account after realising the files were in fact integral to keeping the website online.

There's another story of a famous psytrance producer receiving a USB labelled "MakataK - Untitled 001" in the post, but when they plugged it in, the DAW auto-renamed itself "MakataK" and refused to close. 

In Melbourne, doofers whisper that if you ask "Who is MakataK?" too many times near a sound system, the kick drum will answer back in binary. 

So aside from the kangaroo with LED eyes, that tripper from Byron, the crow council at dawn, and possibly one ibis behind the bins at Flinders Street Station - who actually knows MakataK?

One interview is as follows:

[Transcript: Late-night interview recorded at an undisclosed Melbourne warehouse, 2019]

Interviewer: So, you’re saying you’ve met MakataK?

Witness: (lights a rollie) Met him? Mate, I accidentally downloaded him. I was trying to grab a cracked Sylenth pack off a Russian forum, and instead, I got a folder called makatak_final_final2_reallyfinal.wav. Next thing I know, Ableton opened itself and started writing a track called Wombat Oscillator (147.8 BPM).

Interviewer: …Right. You’re sure it wasn’t just… a plugin?

Witness: (leans in) Plugins don’t order a kebab mid-render.

Interviewer: (squints) …Sorry, it what?

Witness: Through my UberEats app. I didn’t even touch my phone. The order note just said: “extra garlic sauce, sidechain the lettuce.”

Interviewer: Uh huh. And did you actually see him?

Witness: Yeah, kinda. It wasn’t a “person” exactly. More like a waveform with legs. Every time the bass hit, he flickered in and out of visibility. Lasted about nine minutes, then vanished when my smoke alarm went off.

Interviewer: (stares) …And how much acid were you on?

Witness: Well, only two drops and a bickie I found on the floor. But that doesn’t explain the USB.

Interviewer: What USB?

Witness: (pulls one from pocket) When I plug this in, it doesn’t show up as storage. It just plays a looped kick at 147.3 BPM.

Interviewer: …And what happens if you play it backwards?

Witness: (whispers) That’s when the ibis shows up.

Megalina is known for captivating, dynamic sets that ignite dance floors. Her diverse selections and electric energy blend deep house melodies, intricate minimal rhythms, sultry layered sounds, and deep basslines. Megan, an artist of many mediums, expresses herself through fine art, interior and experiential design, and event production.

Jason Clayton is ignited by musical storytelling, with love for connecting self and community, through sound and movement. Experimenting with levels of emotion and energetic curiosity, Jason plays with a progressive sense, building and exploring blissful drops, powerful synths, organic tones, and global sounds. He pulls from an eclectic music palate, genre-blending and fluid in styles, tending to the curation of vibrational relevance to each set produced. His innate ability to channel collective resonance, and capture the space on a journey, is his magic.

Jason has a musical background that draws from playing piano and guitar since childhood, growing up on hip-hop and rock, and hefty time logged on dance floors across the world. Based out of Moab, Utah, heavily involved in community building and event production that ranges from larger festivals, to intimate desert gatherings and ecstatic dance events. He DJs the regional festival circuit and underground frequently, whilst making reoccurring appearances in the iconic scenes of Mexico, South East Asia, and his playa home of Burning Man. Jason is driven with a passion for fostering intentionally woven spaces that are inclusive, conscious, connecting, and sustainable.

Daytime Dan is a Chicago based producer who blends heavy bass, retro samples, and analog synth textures to create a sound that blends together retro and futuristic melodies. Originally from Indianapolis and now based in Chicago, Daniel Shaver has been producing music since 2023.

Drawing inspiration from modern artists such as Pretty Lights, GRiZ, and Zeds Dead, and sampling contemporary artists such as Led Zeppelin, John Denver, and The Allman Brothers, his sound incorporates soulful, retro grooves with vibey, hard hitting bass lines.

Dan has performed at Harvest Fest (IN), Mayfest (MI), Burning Man (NV), and several venues across Chicago. He is working on his first EP that he plans to release towards the end of 2025.
