This podcast involves a dispute over the eligibility of a wild fishery business for inheritance tax relief. The business, which was run by the deceased, Mrs. Pearce, consisted of allowing clients to fish on her land in exchange for rod fees. The tax tribunal examined the activities carried out by Mrs. Pearce and categorized them as either investment or non-investment activities. The tribunal ultimately concluded that the business was mainly an investment activity, as the primary income stemmed from the use of land for fishing, and therefore did not qualify for inheritance tax relief.
