Here we see many of the dreams of homesteaders turn sour. The government gave people land, land recently seized from indigenous cultures, but in some cases did not give them much else. Unless people brought capital or had the ability to go to the Land Grant colleges built from the Morrill Act, which also transferred vast amount of the public domain to farmers, people just needed to figure it out. Railroads promoted an easy life, either to sell land to settlers or to haul their freight. The reality facing many homesteaders was bleak. The writer of Starving to Death on My Government Claim had quite a sense of humor to subvert such a bleak title. They find humor, but much like between 40-50% of those who started homesteading, he decided to leave his homestead for a different life.

Grassroots to Academy Football - Hudson

Johnny's Loaf & Stein was a restaurant in the mall in the town where I grew up. It always seemed to attract a cast of real characters. I imagine these songs playing as background music there. 
Having moved recently from the Great Plains to the Cascades and now to Lower Michigan, I try to release a track every few weeks of my own brand of instrumental music that mixes a hefty dose of 60's pop and rock with accents of blues, jazz and classical music.
I hope listeners will indulge me and take the attitude towards my music as listening to a crazed radio that will randomly change stations and never linger too long a single musical style.
I don't use samples or premade loops. I figure if it doesn't come from me it's not really my song.

Daniël Majoor, also the producer behind the Alio Forte project,  has been involved with electronic music since childhood.

Growing up with the music of Jean Michel Jarre, Vangelis, OMD, Ultravox, Depeche Mode, and later the Ambient scene, he tried to emulate his idols with the few instruments he had. Daniël was primarily interested in sounds and learned to create his own sounds on borrowed synthesizers and keyboards.

Daniël is self-taught, doesn't read music, and taught himself to play.

Later in life, he was able to create his own studio and fulfill his dream: being surrounded by synths and technology, as in the photos of Jarre and Vangelis, while creating his own soundscapes and compositions.

Daniël doesn't see himself as a musician, but rather as someone who "paints" with sound. Just as a painter mixes his colours, Daniel continually experiments with new sounds until he has found the right atmosphere.
