EPM110 is something very close to our hearts. Rico & Sonny is the new project that Adam Stolz and Tim Baker were both working on before Tim's untimely and sudden passing in April 2021. Following Rico & Sonny's debut artist appearance later that year with "The Beat" on EPM's 20 Year compilation we are honoured to continue Tim's legacy with the first full Rico & Sonny EP, backed by a remix from Tim and Adam's long-time friend, DJ Hyperactive.

The DifferentSound Podcast #274 welcomes DJ Hyperactive! Chicago born and bred DJ/Producer Joseph Manumaleuna aka DJ Hyperactive needs little introduce to those versed in the history of techno.  As one of Daft Punk’s “Teachers” and “brother of the humble” according to Resident Adviser, his contributions to the underground continue to span generations.  Honing his skills in the highly influential scene and sound of Chicago in the early 90s, DJ Hyperactive gained instant international recognition and has since gone on to play the most legendary and lauded events and venues over the last 20 years, such as Orbit/ Leeds, Liquid Room/ Tokyo, Love Parade/ Berlin, Shelter & Smart Bar/ Chicago, Interface/ Los Angeles, Movement/ Detroit, Basement & Output/ Brooklyn, Tresor & Berghain/ Berlin and the list doesn’t stop there.  Also, over the course of his career, he has produced over 100 remixes and original tracks, including classics such as ‘Venus’ & ‘Wide Open’/ Missile, ‘25HRs’/ Droid, “Music Box”/ 4Trk, “Reptilian Tank” & “Chicago”/Contact, Drop Bass, Communique, Hybrid, Truncate, Figure, Plus 8, CLR, Blank Code, Impact Mechanics, Illegal Alien, to name a few.  DJ Hyperactive returned to Chicago 2013 to reconnect with his family and musical roots.  His story continues with the difference being the experience and perspective that only a true veteran can possess. Keeping it fresh no matter what.

Jason Patrick’s lineage connects two of the most influential cities in electronic music: Chicago and Detroit. His unique sonic fingerprint combines influences from both cities, honing in on that unmistakable Detroit spirit, while harmoniously incorporating a subtle influence from the Windy City. As a highly-skilled, dynamic selector, he’s been a resident at Chicago’s infamous Spybar with travels across the USA, hitting cities like Los Angeles, New York, Miami and Detroit respectively. He’s also been booked to play in Europe, appearing at Tresor in Berlin and Plastic in Milan.

Equally adept in the studio, he channels years spent refining his technical skills into tracks that have landed on labels such as KMS, Peer, TMM, Future Arkive, and 4trk. His tracks have been played by artists such as Luke Slater, Tensal, Lewis Fautzi, and Philippa Pacho. Equipped with deep knowledge, superlative skills, and a progressive, driven attitude towards his work, Jason Patrick is one of the lynchpins of Chicago techno.
